235 40 17 up front?

235 40 17 yokohama advin (i think) they are what comes on the evo 8. I can get a sweet deal on 4 and im puttin them on back but if they fit up front i wont need new fronts. They are going on a 17X7 rim with a 38 offset i think. I know i will prob need a spacer but is it possible?

oh sec gen, too short? im talkin about the possible rub on the shock up front which is a common problem with a wide tire on an FC

IIRC the EVO had 235/45/17's, but either way they're close enough to the stock diameter for that not to be a big issue.

I doubt that they'll fit with that offset though, but it's a moot point because your wheels are too narrow for them. If you can get a tire shop to install them the sidewalls will be pulled in so much that there'll be no point in having a tire that wide because the outer tread won't be on the road. The tire carcass will be so distorted from squeezing a wide tire on a narrow rim, the contact patch won't be any bigger than with a narrower tire.

If you're talking about getting take-offs, then try some STi tires, they're 225/45/17 and they're the widest size that's allowable on a 17x7. If you look around you can probably find a deal on some used STi tires, they're also amazingly sticky.

You may need to get some thin spacers to clear the suspension for either size.

I have 235/40r17's in front on my car. I hear that 45 series 235's will rub.

what difference would the aspect ratio make on rubbing something on the side (strut)? It would only make a height difference. The only way you can fit wider than 215 is with a lower-than-wtock offset! Stock offset will only fit 215's, unless you get spacers.

so 245/40/17 for the front is a no no too? offset is 30-32.

Some people run 225's on stock offsets without problems, others have rubbing. The aspect ratio can have a difference with rubbing on the sides because the springs aren't stright, they get bigger at the top, so the higher you go, the smaller the space you get. Same thing with the fenders, they taper inwards.

I'd not go to a 245 with stock fenders without coilovers, it's just too tight. I've heard of many people running into problems with 235's, and I've spent a bunch of time looking at the clearances on my 225's and I just don't think there's enough room on my setup anyway. It's maybe possible with narrow 245's (different models in the same size will have different dimentions) and a perfect offset, but I'm not gonna risk it. On my next set I think I'll go with a 235/40/17. I'm pretty sure I can fit them ok. My wheels are 17x8, with a 30mm offset, stock springs and shocks.

It's going to be tight.
Be prepared to use a thin spacer to get them to fit.

I am running 225/45/17 on the front 17 by 8 34 offset, with Koni Yellows And ground control coilovers.

I still see plenty of room for a 235/40/17

Way too tall. The correct sizse in a 215 would be a 215/45/17. Other sizes that are "correct" are 205/50/17, 225/45/17, and 235/40/17.

Offset is the offset (in mm) from dead center between the front face to the rear face.
Backspacing is the distance from the rear face to the hub plane.

Very oversimplified, backspacing = (rim width)/2 + offset.
