I know the oil pressure subject has been covered mutliple times and I did search but didnt really quite get the exact answer to my question.

Some said the normal oil pressure should as of below
idle: 30
WOT: 60
So is that true for both N/A and turbo engine?


Another concern is that my car is a complete stock 88 turbo2 and the oil pressure reading on the stock oil pressure gauge is on the 60 mark under WOT and right in the middle of 30-60 (so i guess is 45ish) when idling (idle speed is around 800)

Sound ok or I need to adjust it down a little?

I m still learning so please excuse my rather silly questions.

Your fine, the higher the pressure at idle the better for the engine.

so is there a certain upper limit that may need my attention on if the oil pressure at idle goes beyond that upper limit ??

 

youre sooo lucky, my oil pressure is at ~0 at idle, and get to like just below the 30 on WOT, after warm up....

Before warm up i get 30 at idle, and about 60 at WOT...

 

Some thing is defenlty wrong here. Check pressure sensor conection, using the proper weight oil?

The o-ring on oil passage between the front cover and front iron might be leaking, giving you the lower pressure. Also make sure your pressure regulator isn't loose and leaking.

Get an aftermarket gauge.. if you getting below 15 psi at idle... something is DEFENLTY wrong 20ish at idle is alittle low but ok 30+ at idle is ideal.

If your driving at such low oil pressure, your engine is going to die of bearing failer.

 

i have a 87 turbo 2 that i just put a new engine in and my oil presure is like 50 at idle and when your driving its like 70 i think this is way to high am i right? and also i noticed the oil pan seal is leaking all over the place is it cause my pressure is to high cause i dont see how it can leak all the way around the pan gasket.

 

I don't think the oil pan should be leaking at all. Sounds like it wasn't put on right.

i dont see how i could have put the pan on wrong i used a gasket and sealer just like the instructions said and even if it had a leak how can it be leaking all over wouldnt it just be in one or two places? and whats the normal oil pressure for a new/rebuilt turbo 2 motor?

 

Maybe you didn't tighten the bolts enough or something, dunno. I believe they said above that it was 30 at idle and 60 at WOT. A little over shouldn't be a problem though. There are people that run higher for racing, though I'm not sure what else they do to the engine to handle it.

 

stock oil pressure gauge isnt as accurate over time, just my 2 cents.

 

has anybody had an issue of a factory sending unit to be inaccurate

 

ok thanks.....and i found the leak here it wasnt the pan it was the oil feed line for the turbo the one that bolts on the front housing on drivers side its a banjo fitting i dunno why thats leaking but im gonna try new copper ring gaskets
