How rare are the RX7's that DON'T come with the sunroof?

I was talking to an RX7 owner, and he thinks I won't even have a chance trying to fit in an RX7 with the sunroof.. Every one I've seen so far within 80 miles has one.. is it very rare for it not to?

None of the R1/R2 models have sunroofs and I think base models don't have sunroofs either. (Except I think one owner here somehow has a Silver Stone car that's listed as an R2 by Mazda that DOES have a sunroof.) R1/R2 and base models are less common than Touring/PEP models but you should be able to find a car w/o a sunroof.

the r1 and r2 packages don't have the sunroofs and I think that some touring don't have the sunroof (not sure about the touring though)...I have seen very few without the sunroof though...they are rare and most people like the sunroof anyways

Well you could have the dealer instal a sunroof on the R1/R2 models.
It generally wasn't done, but not unheard of.

R1/R2 cars did NOT come with sunroofs.

Base models didn't come with sunroofs.

All Touring models came with sunroofs, in 94 these were glass all others are steel. IIRC there were no 95 Touring models

94-95 cars had a model called PEG/PEP that came with sunroofs, all of them were steel.

No dealers were putting in factory sunroofs, I've seen a car that had an aftermarket sunroof and it was a hack job to say the least. Factory sunroofs have the "double bubble" in them.

Is there a suspension difference between touring and base I should be aware of?

only option I really want on the car is a real transmission.
don't care much about stuff like sunroof, power seats, real leather, etc.

Easy car to work on? I hear you have to change the vacuum hoses on them "often?"

i had to look around a good while before finding my BB base '93 w/ no sunroof, there seem to be a lot more touring models floating around, and i for one think the sunroof spoils the beautiful lines of the FD roof (imo)..

Touring and base models have the same suspension.

R1 and R1 had stiffer shocks, besides the shocks R model suspension is the same as other models.

There were also some bushing differences between the years, not really sure on what is what there. As far as I can tell all 93s have the same bushings. They softened them up a little in the later years.

Pretty close on most accounts except that a '94 Touring/PEG are identical(both with glass sunroofs). A PEP and PEG are different with the PEP having only some of the options that a Touring/PEG has.

Also the Sunroof could be specisl ordered on an BASE model (As could all the other componets of the TOURING package) But MAZDA NEVER put Sunroofs or Cruise Control in the R-1/2 package cars

Since no one else has done it, its easy to tell the rarity by looking at the production #'s for the US.

There were 5259 cars w/o sunroofs brought in which represents ~38% of the cars.

As for 1993-94 Black ones w/o sunroof, there were 1260 cars made w/5 spd and 125 made w/auto which together represent ~10% of the cars built. Not the best odds but with time and looking nationally, you should be able to get one.

Check your info. I'm pretty sure that PEG/Tourings are not the same. Touring has Bose, and factory fogs PEG doesn't. PEG/PEP was a name change for 94/95 models.

You can't get a Base with a sunroof, if it has a sunroof it is a Touring, for 93's. I'm positive on this for 93's, and 99% sure for 94's and 95's, except it can be a Touring or a PEG/PEP in 94 and 95.

For 94 if it has a steel sunroof it is a PEG/PEP. No Tourings for 95.

I've got a 1993 VR Base Model, and, you guessed it.....no sunroof.

They distort the true double-bubble roof lines of the Rx-7.

Yeah the touring came with one. The Peoples Preference will have some but not all because some people obviously didn't want one.

I'm told that 6'3 and 6'4 guys can fit in their cars without difficulty. I'm 6'3 myself, but since I don't have one yet I can't say from experiance. Hopefully the one I look at this weekend will be the one..... Hope it doesn't sell before I get there......
