Greddy Elbow...Horsepower Capabilities???

I just received my brand new Greddy Elbow from RX-7Store.net today for my Christmas Present. I must say I was a little dissapointed in the size of the inlet pipe. It measures approximately 2.5" but opens up a bit more as you look further into the elbow. I currently have 2.5" intercooler pipes, custom FMIC with 2.5" endtanks. I was going to upgrade my IC set-up with 3" all around including piping due to the fact that this sizing seems that it would be a little restricting in terms of flow with higher HP. The main reason for the Greddy Elbow was because I thought that the inlet on the elbow was 3".
So, should I just keep the 2.5" set-up for 375-400 whp? Also, what kind of Max HP could one hope for with this Elbow installed?

There are countless guys at the 400-500hp levels that run that elbow with no issues. in addition to erniet, ralph at ground zero has i think has 2 fd's in the 600-700whp range with that elbow too. Dont worry about it, your fine for a long time.

Thanks guys, to me it just seems that it's kinda small for that kind of power. I guess I'll keep the IC setup I have afterall. Do you think the 2.5" IC endtanks and piping is a good size for those goals?

I cut the 2.5" section off when I connected my GReddy 3 row as the IC pipe is 3". I also ground out and polished the inside of it.

Ah hah! I was looking at that myself. I was also wondering if it's made for that purpose. It also has an extra lip on it in case you did that.

Ya It was a shock to me, 2 years ago when I got my Greddy 3-Row. I was like " This is odd My pipe is too long". It looks cleaner when its cut down as well.

See the lip and then the smaller 2.5" section with another lip on it? You just cut the small section off and grind out the inside and and then you don't get the flow restriction. I also ground down the GReddy part.

Is 2.5" a decent size for flow? What kind of power are you guys making with the 2.5" section on the elbow?
The reason I ask is because I was wondering if my current IC setup with the 2.5" all the way around is okay for my power goal. What do you guys think?

If the outlet on your turbo isn't larger than a 2.5", there really isn't much point in having anything else in the system after it any larger than that.

Good point RG. Anything larger would just decrease the velocity therefore adding more lag.

Last I checked the Greddy elbow was 2.75 inch like their intercooler piping.

I measured the inside diameter and it's approximately 2.5. Maybe you don't measure that way? Either way, my 2.5" pipes mount exactly to it. D

in regards to the 3 row/3" piping, i would assume they are designed to be used with their larger turbos (t78/88). anyone have the outlet measurements on those turbos to confirm this thought?

Inside or outside diameter? Maybe Pipe sizing is measured from outside?? Mine still measures 2.5 on the inside.

Not that it's a bid deal though. After everyones comments my setup is more than enough for my goals then some.
Thanks, D
