What oil should i use on 121K motor?

Since I dont know the history of it I dont want to cause myself anymore headache.

I dont recall this 15W50 stuff. IS this new?

Or should I just go with the Castrol 20W50?

I was talking to a specialty shop the other day (www.synlubes.com)( I was at their store here in Baltimore) and told them about my '88 N/A using a quart of oil in about 200 miles. They said stick with conventional oil, maybe use a 10W40 instead of 10W30, but that a synthetic wouldn't be any use for my car. I was pretty impressed that a guys with a building full of synthetic oil didn't try to sell me any! I haven't seen any recommendations for using 20W50. Check the FAQ - there's some links there where guys talk about different oils.

You won't go wrong using Castrol 20-50 and changing it every 2500-3000 miles.

I have read the FAQ and also about 10 pages of psot about what other peeps are using.

I need to know what kind of oild for a high mileage engine with unknown history.

I wiill most likely go with the 20W50 for now....

anyone else got some answers?

Oh I forgot . as for synthetics. I used them before in my FB's in the 80's. I am using it now in my other 90 and it runs very smooth.

But this motor is unknown to me so far and I dont want to dislodge 10yrs of crap in the motor or something by using the synthetic.

that is why I am trying to be more specific rather than a generic ""what oil do you ALL use?" type of question.
