New to owning an RX7, but I will certainly try to attend, since I am in the Tulsa area.
I have not yet gotten to take delivery of my car, as the paperwork is still pending. I purchased it from an impound yard sale just a few days ago.

Red '83, with red interior. Car has 15" alloy wheels with 205/50-15, and an aftermarket exhaust.
Was actually an accidental purchase. I was looking for a Nissan SX or Z-ZX (I have a Nissan truck) for a builder. Could not pass up the sweet little RX7

Is the bbq itself good enough to actually be worth my driving the 250 miles from Dallas?

Damon,
Last time we had little over 22 cars with a cosmo and rx3..it was a good turnout. That BBQ we only gave them about 6 weeks notice and they all showed up. This time they will have over 10 weeks to get their **** together. We had weenies and burgers last time. Probably can do chicken, pork, and steak if people will be willing to pitch in a few bucks. And really 3-4 bucks would be all it would take.

Also, Dallas is just a short sprint from Tulsa. I did that trip about 15 times last year getting little things sorted out on my car going back and forth to Gotham. And another thing is we are going to have t-shirts made. But some funny stuff like "You Got Stallown3d" and crap like that. I would like to pick a night where it's test & tune night at the drag so we can go do a few passes. Either way, it will be a good time.

Pick the right weekend, and it could be held in conjuction with hallett's High Speed Touring, for those who want to get out on a road course. Costs about $75 to get on the track. They hold this once a month, towards the end. Track time is on a Sunday, 5 sesions, 15 minutes each, driver plus one passenger. That is, if anyone is interested. Street legal cars are all that is required, but race prepped cars can also be used.
I plan on taking my car out for this at least 2 or 3 times, depending on how well it runs along with what I can afford. This was what I bought the car to do, along with general driving.
More info can be found at www.hallettracing.com

Holy Crap...That's great. I know there is a local Rotary Performance (or something like this) and the guys name is Carlos (or something like this) and his shop is at 1-44 and Sheridan...Is that you?

Not to hijack our own thread, but you have more information? Will be great for you to be there to represent.

See you there.

Someone else who thinks the race should not require slowing waaaaaaaaaay down before the first turn?

I have not found any Rotory specialty shops listed in the phone book around here. How do we contact Rotory Resource?

Hey Damon, As much fun as that sounds it would turn into a Hallet day instead of a BBQ Hallet is about 45 min away from tulsa...Call it an hour both ways after traffic and such. So then we would stay there about 4-5 hours...So that would be about 7 hours out of the day for Hallet and would leave no time for mingling / BBQ. However, the Tulsa International Raceway (drag) is only 10 min away form the BBQ location I would much rather be on a course than at the drag but just trying to think logical. But this is an option...Maybe we can plan it on the same day they have a highspeed touring at Hallet and whoever wants to blast out there can, and who wants to hang can. But then this would split up the group and that's no fun either

Hallett runs on a Sunday, if the main "Meet and mingle" was held on Saturday, that would allow those who wish to go out for the Hallett event to do so, without interupting the rest of the social event. I just thought I would mention the ability to get a street legal car on a road course, with only a few safety restrictions. (No passing in the corners, as that is one of the riskiest areas)
Just a thought, I have no idea what day(s) the event was being planned for.
Also, the Hallett event runs all day, as they have open wheel, closed wheel, spec Miata, and possibly another class or 2, along with the HST. The 5 track sessions are spread out over the course of the day.
Either way, I will try to attend whatever the final event turns out to be.

It's a 1/4 mile...And you think that people would want to make this a whole weekend deal? I don't mind but I don't know how many people would drive up and stay over...But that would be a good deal. I will check on the High Speed Touring days at hallett and try to make it on the same day...Also, sundays the Drag opens to whoever on sundays and is called Test N Tune. That runs from 6-10pm.

I for one would consider a bbq on Saturday and Hallet on Sunday, that's a good idea. The group stays together and those that want to run can.

For me it just depends on which specific weekend it is. If I have an event here in town that weekend I wouldn't be able to come

We have a big group here, it would just come down to who is interested in coming. If everybody comes to just our local events we have a couple dozen cars.

I have events on May 15 and May 22 and get married June 4. The earlier in May the better for me.

Just for the record, the Hallett event for May is on the 28th and 29th. Saturday is just practice, and Sunday is the actual track day.
In the event that the main meet and mingle is set for the 29th, I may be unable to attend, due to other obligations with folks that will be at Hallett anyways.
As noted before, I was just adding this as a possible bonus event. For those who would not run HST more than one time, it would be a little costly, as they require a $35 annual membership along with the $75 to run. Not a great deal for just one day, but worth it for those who would be running more often. They hold this HST once a month, from March till October.

Looks like they have raised the cost from $75 to $95. Bummer.
Guess that will help to rule out adding this as an additional option.
No worries, I still would like to attend the BBQ, if at all possible.

Talking

actually, carlos' shop did not close, he moved to a larger shop on 71st and 145th (broken Arrow--across from the super wal-mart). he rents his space from my friends step-dad. carlos is a real nice guy. i havent had my engine rebuilt by him, but he did bring my car back from the dead for me. i transplanted the engine in my car with a friend. but that was our first big tuning expedition, and we screwed up on some vacuum lines and stuff. i brought it to him, and he fixed the leaks, told me what was wrong, how to fix certain things, what the check for in the future, and even took out my rats nest for me! i suppose he could have had an engine blow after he rebuilt it. i do know of a few stories of people getting their engine rebuilt, and not breaking them in properly by revving the **** out of them. i would assume that any engine rebuilder would have a few of them go after being rebuilt. i know he has been doing this for at LEAST 3 years now. so, i guess 4 out of 3 years would be pretty good. he also does piston work. his rates are fairly reasonable as well. since he is an american airlines electrician, this is kind of his side passion job. so, his rates are really good and also he is somewhat lax with them. great guy and very courteous in my opinion. maybe you should give an explanation of why the engines went instead of just saying, "4 engines blew that he rebuilt." i am sure that if an engine that you rebuilt had blown by a person that didnt know how to break them in you wouldnt want some one saying, "they blew after being rebuilt by xx". ive just had experience with his mechanical skills, and have not had a problem with them yet. also, he helped fix my friends sil-80 sr20det conversion as well. if you ask for advice or help, he gladly helps. very nice. hopefully if my work schedule permits, i will be attending the bbq!
im not flaming, just saying you should state a reason why they blew or some thing happened, instead of just saying some thing happened. kind of reminds me of movies/shows where the attorney is trying to purposely grill a witness and not give a reason why some thing happened, so it looks like a more grave matter than it actually is. but it is nice to know that we have a couple rotary places in town. just wish there wasnt always friction among the rotary places. really gets annoying.
