Should I get a free engineless FC?

Hi all, my cousin's neighbor has 3 Rx-7s 1 FB and 2 FCs, and one of the FCs is enginless but body is still intact. He offered it to my cousin for free..I was just wondering what engine we could/should put in it and how much it would cost?

What trim is it, and does it have the rest of the components intact (brakes, tranny, interior, etc)?

If so, you could always part it out if you don't want to go through with an engine install, or spend $1,500 and get a hold of a nice JDM engine and maybe a tranny (I just pulled those figures from my ***, but it's probably a reasonable amount to expect to spend).

I haven't really looked at it yet, I've seen it a couple times from a distance, my cousin told me about it today and I'm heading over to his house tomorrow to check it out. If we do decide to take it in, he said his highschool might let us take the car there and work on it...We live in florida so I'm sure I can find someone with a pickup to help tow it..But I just wanted to know how much it would cost so it's not sitting in one of our yars for a year..

The problem is I'm only 17 and I don't have money growing out my ***..I'm about to get a job making what? 100 week? Anyways, I know ABSOLUTLY NOTHING about FCs so any information is helpful, remember I have NO engine and will accept any information on where to get stuff..I probobly won't touch interior. I want a pure performance vehicle I want an engine for around 500-600 bucks and max on turbo kit is $2500....

P.S I see a lot of Turbo Kit's like Greddy for 87-89 Rx-7s does this mean they won't work on 86? It's called the "GReddy TD06SH-20G Turbo Kit"

If thats your budget you might as well not bother piecing together a turbo kit for a N/A(unsure if anyone makes a kit?).Grab a turbo 13b, jdm or w/e your choice, and you will have plenty of money left over for rebuild and basic maintenance/preventative mods.

EDIT: Also, you can go piston if you'd like.I personally wouldn't, not my style but its always an option. Its up to you.

The turbo kits for the rx7 are only made as upgrdes for turbo'd 7's. normally

I wouldn't bother with a turbo kit, way too much money, piece it together yourself.

The JDM 13B-Turbo is looking nice, on Jspecautosports.com it's selling for about 1300 and comes with engine, 5 speed tranny, ECU, intercooler and complete wiring. That sounded real nice but they are out of stock...doesn't matter, it will take like half a year to save up that much if I want to spend any money on anything else. But I also saw that it is also only pushing 205 hp..That's already turboed and intercooled..what would I be able to max hp it out in the end? about 250-260?

a free flowing exhaust like Racing beat turboback and many other catless exhuast with a fcd can show gains from 30-50 due to the lack of back pressure, which makes for boost increase.

wow, I wonder what a good intake will do..I guess there really IS a big differance between the 7 and the 8 engines. A good exhaust on the 8 would give you 4 hp if your lucky..

A stock S4 is 182 HP from the factory and a S5 is 200HP. What is your RX7? S4 or S5?

And do your own turbo kit, its cheaper and you can customize more.

I don't know if you read the rest of the thread but I Haven't exactly seen it yet, the car will be mine if I want it for sure, but I'm just looking at prices and stuff and see if it's worth the hassle. All I know is that the car has no engine, and I was looking for a new engine and saw the 13B-T for (1300) which is pushing 205hp@6600rpm. And I guess if what Hypo said about 50hp just from a free flowing exhaust which costs? I'll guess (400), a descent intake for (200) a header for (600), pullys for (200?). I also want to get lowering springs springs(150) and just clean up the intererior(400ish). repaint (do it myself so only about 150ish).

This means I can have a 300ish horsepower Fc for about 4000ish, I'll try to do most of this stuff myself, if I can't It could go up to 5000ish. That's a lot but I'm not planning on doing it all at once..Engine first of course, then interior then paint, then the goodies. IN the mean time I have my 8..If I really really think I can pull off an amazing 7 I might even sell my 8 for like 25000 and well won't have to worry about cash anymore..My 8 is slow anyways.

Your 17 and own an rx-8??? Holy crap, I owned an 87' plymoth voyager when I was 17 and it was given to me.

As far as the FC. Take it. Even if it sits around for a few years. I payed $500 for mine with a blown motor in it. Its worth it. Free is good.

If you do plan to do a Turbo FC that has that kind of HP you'll need to do a full drivetrain swap. For starters and something you havent priced is the little intangables that not everyone thinks about. Alot of people I've spoken too that have done RE swaps and the such always have extra cash spent at Napa for various parts and such.

Also if you're looking into buying engines, make sure its a repuable place. That has PROVEN themselves, some of which are on this forum (FC3s.org and RotaryWorks are just two of many). Last thing you want to do is add an engine rebuild to that list of yours. Before you start doing alot I would check out RETeds performance section on his website (http://www.fc3spro.com). Just so you can see what does what where.

I hope some of that helps.
