Turbo shaft play: acceptable limits?

Turbo shaft play: acceptable limits?
I just picked up an 87 Turbo II. The turbo has a little bit of lateral play in the shaft. When is this unacceptable? When it gets so noisy it sounds like its coming apart? Or until it stops making boost? I plan on a new one soon, just wondering if it is ok to run like it is. Thanks

I'm sure it's fine. it just won't last as long as one that doesn't have any and might take a split sec longer to hit full boost. you know it's gone if it hits the sides when you move it back and forth, or here very bad noises while boosting.
