How do I put on a new oil cooler?

I'm planning on putting either an older RX-7 oil cooler, or an RX-4 oil cooler on my '85. (The bigger oil to air coolers, not the liny oil to water to air one mine came with.) How should i go about it? Which oil hoses do i use and where are they? Thanks for the help.

get a second gen filter mount or a early one if you can find one. i would suggest gettting a tractor shop to make you custom hoses. but i have helped make second gen hoses work.

I bought an '84 with a bad, bad oil leak, so I went to the '82 parts car and swapped out everything. the oil filter mount the hoses and the coolant lines. ( I also ended up swapping the rad and fan shroud)

there is a brass tee sticking out of the oil/water cooler equiped cars were you only need one hose so a little trimming with a hacksaw fixed her right up.

if you plan on using your radiator you will need to fab some sort of brackets to get the cooler in front of your radiator assy. as the later radiators are taller and there is little room under them for the cooler. ( i hear the later rads are 3 row and the earlier ones 2, so I am thinking of going back to the 84 rad.)

Hope this helps!

oh yeah........

It might be a good idea to replace the o-rings under the filter stand at this time.

If your hoses look iffy get some of those too.(mazdatrix has some neat looking steel ones)

My next cooler will be a TII I will try to fit to my '83!( wish me luck)
