who rebuilds 12a's/who should I send mine to?

Before anyone says buy a used one: I don't want a used motor (actually, my mom wont let me buy a used motor even though it's my money. don’t ask, I duno). Rebuilt motors are fine; I don't care if I get my old block back rebuilt or if I get a new rebuilt block and ship them my old block as the core charge.

Who still rebuilds 12a's? I know it's a fairly old engine. Who would you recommend to rebuild a 12a?

I did search and came across three places that might be willing/able to do it. I just want some feedback/recommendations.

Thanks for the referral

Distance isn’t much of an issue - it will only cost around $200 round trip to get it from NJ to California and back.

Anyone else have a comment?

yeah.. they ship it anywhere. what ever you do, stay away from a place called mazda's and more. if you want some info about that, check out the NW region forum. good luck on whatever you get, and yur mom is right. you don't want a used engine.

... and of course www.pineappleracing.com. They seems to have the best reputation. and offer a 5yr warranty.

Ive been looking into rotary resurection to build my next motor. I think his shop mostly focus's on FC's, so i dont think he works on 12a's. It wouldnt hurt to ask though.

http://www.rotaryresurrection.com is cheaper becaisee he re-uses good rotor housings. That'll knock a lotta $$ off from the final price. Your basically getting a 're-conditoned' engine, not 'new' (and there's nothing wrong with that..)

Do you know if he Does a complete rebuild? (minus the old rotors and housings). Because when i was looking around for rebuild kit, i noticed that mazda sells two kits. There's a "Gasket Kit $400" and a "Full Rebuild Kit $900+". And for the price he charges, i dont understand how he can make money and still do a full Rebuild.

I only know what is posted on his website. Read his website- he explains in great detail what he does (and doesn't do) to the motors. I especially like the fact that he is up front about his rebuilds using 'good-used' housings.

Gotta respect a man who is upfront like that.

Gummie,

Didn't the decarbonizing work? Do you know what's wrong with the engine?

You should diagnose exactly what's really wrong with it if you can before trying to get it rebuilt. Since you haven't actually had it running from what I've heard, it may or may not actually be rebuildable.. It'd be a shame to drive all that way and find out that you just need to buy another junker motor and rebuild that one.

Message me if you get the chance.

Jon

KDR Performance (KD Rotary) are one of the best in the country and they are close to you. http://www.kdrotary.com/
Pineapple are good also; you can't go wrong with either KDR or Pineapple. BTW, there is a list of mechanics in the NE forum.
