Ok, broke the ACV plate and its got major leaks. MAJOR, we tried to seal it with some stuff which ended up leaking into the intake manifold and pretty much ruining and clogging it up.

Looks like its time for a new intake manifold.. since im here and i got a little cash i might as well put on a new carb as well. Looking at racing beat, i could put on a holley, webber, or Dellortro.. for me the cheaper the better, and I am stock ported. I really am not looking to put a new fuel pump on either.

Will a new carb and intake clean up all those ugly hoses and crap around the carb also?

What to do?

I dont think it gets much cheaper than sending your carb to rx7carl or sterling, it just takes some time.

getting a new carb will get rid of the rats nest.

I think if you go with a holley, webber, or delltorto you will need a new fuel pump.

I would get a webber, if you are really set on getting a different carb (aka not the one thats on your car now), you can probably get a used on for pretty cheap if you look around

You have a 12a I assume. A nice weber 45DCOE would suit you really nice. You can get the setup from places like rotaryshack or mazdatrix.

Any of the aftermarket carbs (including ours) needs a proper fuel pump and regulator to work correctly. That said, we are cheaper than a holley or weber setup. What did you get into the intake? Im sure my nasty carb dip can remove it.

you will need a better fuel pump and regulator regardless to take full advantage of any of these options listed.

Silicone sealant and "Insta-weld" mix, aparently it doesnt dry wel together but intead flies into the intake to dry inside there. Ok... is a new fuel pump and reg a difficult installation? At rotary shack they have the webber 12a weber intake kit.(45DCOE) This would be good right?

This kit includes ( 1) 45 Weber DCOE carb with linkage, intake
manifold, velocity stacks, air filters ,all nessisary gaskets/o-rings needed
to complete the job this kit will work best on stock motors with exhaust and or ignition upgrades.. Ads up to 60 hp over the origonal Nikki carburator!

..........$550.00

Is that what I need? I dont have too much more money than that though, so..yah... fuel pump and regulator, anywhere i can get these for cheap-ish?

i have heard a lot of ppl getting the webber. it seems to be the most popular. i also know the head mechanic at the mazda dealership in the area and he said he likes the webber. i just have one concern. they don't have a choke. in the cold, i NEED the choke. has anyone had problems with this? when i upgrade, i think i'm going with the holley. besides, that is what i have run on most of my other cars (muscle cars) and i have the most experience with them. any comments?

Holleys are notorious for having quality issues. They give great power, are cheap, and are easy to fix though. Personally, being a glutton for punishment, I have plans to swap Mikuni side drafts on to mine. Not the most viable option though...
