My car died while on gear going 65 mph.. smoke from exhaust! dead engine?

My car died while on gear going 65 mph.. smoke from exhaust! dead engine?

rebuild engine 1k on it. running only on premix. my car has stalled before while on gear but never with smoke coming out from the exhaust.when the car stalled all the idiot lights came up and then as i tried turning the car it wouldnt even crank or turn over all u hear is a psh or click but nothing more.. it wasent alot of smoke
but you could see it increase as i tried to turn the key for it to start. by the way im vegeta6263 this is my new screename.

Take a 19mm socket and rachet and see if you can turn the motor over by hand.

If all the idiot lights came on I believe that is an alternator or charging problem.

If the engine dies the lights will come on too. If they come on while the car is running then there is an alt problem in most cases.

the car started today after laying on that place for 1 day. it started right up no problem and after 20-30 seconds it died. i know i should of been pressing the gas but i didnt and then it wouldnt turn on again i was like what the ****!!!. their was no smoke at start up and the engine sounded strong.. what could the problem be?

i kept trying to get it to start again after 5 min but nothing. i even tried teh unflodding procedure taking out the EGi fuses but nothing. actually after i did that egi fuse thing i would have a weird *** noise when i tried to turn the key like kNOCKS!

the knocks is the starter clicking, I'm thinking, and it sounds like your alternator is gone

True- same thing happened to me in the vert- twice.

Put in a 3rd gen unit, and all has been well since.

the guy in discount auto parts tested the car for the alternator and it read 13.2 i dont know maybe is less since he measured it having 4 cylinders.. since it doesnt have any i dont know.. arent the alternators have 14.5 NEW?

That is it a little on the low side for voltage. But it should not disable your car. How many volts does your battery have when everything is off. Do not reference the stock gauge for that. Your going to need a voltmeter.

Need to check this before you start throwing money at your car.


Did you install the engine your self?

yeah i did i installed the engine my self and rebuild it myself, but the car had some smaller similar issues before the rebuild like it woudl stall before. my battery is bigger 725 cold cranking amp battery with 875 cranking power.
