Hissing sound from exhaust on '83 SE

Hissing sound from exhaust on '83 SE
Howdy all,
I am new to the RX-7 automobile as of last week, and new to this forum as of today! I am writing with a question on my exhaust system: In all gears when a try to accelerate I get a loud hissing sound from the exhaust pipe. At the same time the hissing occurs there is a dramatic drop in power.
Being new to the car I could not trace down the source of the sound, but I believe it has something to do with the air pump. Any enlightenment you old timers could give me on the problem would be greatly appreciated!
