My first FD rebuild, did with an 89 t2 rotor

hey whats up? I put up a post earlier if you could match fc and fd rotors, so far here are the results.... I just got done rebuilding the engine in my FD, I had a collapsed rotor face, and a broken apex and ruined housing, I got a used housing and i used the rotor out of one of my spare 89 T2's, one rotor out of the fd, so far its running great, I have not taken to to high rpm yet, I dont see any problems. The rotors physically looked almost identical except the combustion faces were slightly different, not as machinced in the fc's rotor. Hey anybody got an extra set of twins they want to sell??
also My primary turbo seems to have exhaust out the intake, its gone huh??

thanks,
Jesse

That seems like it would be a little odd... Doesn't the FC have lower compression than the FD? I'd think it would make the motor down on power a bit?

Not only that, but aren't the FD rotors lighter? I would think with one FD rotor and one T2 rotor, your engine would not be balanced right.

Did you weigh them?

That's another good point, if that's true I'd imagine the eccentric shaft is now doing the horizontal mombo.

Jesus! I'd get on the phone with somebody who knows what they're doing ASAP and doublecheck to make sure that's OK. I'm pretty sure the FD rotors are different than the FC rotors though, which can't be good.

the rotors are the same weight and compression, you can look at the charts on mazdatrix, I dunno, the engine seems to run really smooth, i guess time will tell, the only differences i could tell was that there was more machining on the corners of the combustion chamber on the fd rotors. I know the 88 t2s are different, the 89+ t2 rotors seemed almost identical., its working, the only thing i am worried about is the balance, but we will see in the future, I was pretty crazy doing all that work to find out if it would work huh? lol

I think I have read it somewhere that says the 89 Turbo rotors(9.0:1) have same compression ration as the FD rotors(9.0:1), but can't remember if they weight the same though.
Maybe someone else can confirm this.

I just looked the FC FSM and the compression ratio for turbo rotor is 9.0:1 and non-turbo rotor is 9.7:1, but got no info on the weight of the rotors.

Rotor information from a chart in Mazdatrix's catalog:

Engine: 13B turbo 89-92, Compression: 9.0, Weight (grams): 4075, Weight (pounds): 9.54

Hope this helps.

Well, according to atkinsrotary.com the wieght, and compression of the rotors is the same, and they both use the same Apex seal, apex spring, side seal, side seal spring, corner seal, corner seal plug, and corner seal spring. All info can be found here http://www.atkinsrotary.com/enginepart.htm

So as far as I can tell, they're the same. I would still contact someone and make sure that it'll be ok.

have 250 miles, took it up to 8k

hey guys, yea the car is still running, i am still in the process of breaking the engine in, i have 250 miles, I finally redlined it to see if there was vibration, I could tell of none, the engine is running good, I need a new secondary turbo though, i guess when i blew the last engine the seal broke it. If someone has some for sell email me at yz007@aol.com, I will take some that are rebuildable,

thanks,
Jesse Arellano

He's right...

87-88 TII rotors are lower compression and heavier. 89-91 TII rotors have the same weight and compression as the FD.
