Oil change messy?
Oil change messy?
Ok, my oil filter is not the usual way i have seen on other makes of cars. I don't know if for every year of 7 they did this. My oil filter is vertical so wouldn't all the oil spill out when i take it off? Or does it drain every time the car is off?
take a screwdriver and poke 4 holes in the top before you take the oil pan plug out. wait a few minutes for the oil to finish draining. now you should have no problem taking it off w/o making a mess.
yep, all RX-7's are like that, great, isn't it?

All oil filters have some sort of "anti drain back" so that they
have oil in them at startup. Sometimes this works and
sometimes it doesn't.
Anyway, one time my punch hole wasn't big enough and
when I took it off it spilled oil on the engine. I freaked out!
I use a very sharp punch so that the hole doesn't tear and
get metal into the inside of the oil filter. I do it the night
before on a hot engine and change the oil in the morning.
No muss, no fuss.
