Ok I'll post this. I was a bit ashamed of myself at first...

So the nipple on my AST broke off and shot coolant everywhere and I wound up overheating a couple days ago. I really should have known better, but since my AST was pretty new I thought i would have held up to Cali weather.

I'm hoping since my engine is BRAND NEW that the housings and coolant seals held up. I really dont need another rebuild right now

I'll just have to wait for the compression and coolant pressure test. Car starts, no smoke.. but damn.

I was gonna say, if you see me at 7stock, you can slap me, but then i realized how many people will be there.

Might as well put the pre cat back on and re-use the old vulcanized rubber vacuum hoses!

Are you gonna replace with aluminum AST, or eliminate?

So how bad did you overheat?
Like did you see the needle climbing to the red zone then you shut off or did you drive, drive, and drive some more, looked down, and then you noticed the needle was pegged at the top of the hot zone?

 

Man, temps of 105 keeps my FD in the garage. Is it your daily driver?

 

i'll make it a point to look at a car with a Mr sparkle somewhere on it, and slap the owner repeatedly

 

It got to about 11:00 o'clock, and then i shut it off, waited 30 minutes, cool down, drive...shut off again...until i got home 3 hours later...what a long 4 miles

That reminds me I need to get a Aluminum AST.

 

I wouldn't worry then.

I've had
1) AST break
2) TB coolant hose rip open (Twice )
3) Turbo coolant hose rip open

In all 4 intances, I had the needle climb up to almost the H line, then I shut off. Waited till it cooled down and limped to my destination. 40k on my reman, and everything is swell

From what I have noticed, most with failed O-rings are the ones that looked down at the temp gauge, saw the needle pegged in the red zone, and have NO clue how long the needle was there.
