my oil pressure it through the roof

i just bought an 88 gxl and the oil pressure is maxed out, is that normal, i dont think it is, but not sure. nay ideas?

If the gauge itself is immediately going to the maximum of its reading, then either the gauge, the connection or the sender is short-circuited. Check them one by one (no other way anyway )

If the oil is maxed out when looking at the dipstick, that's the best You should always try to keep it there

yeah but not by much, the warmer ir gets the lower the oil pressure gets. but it is almost always on or near the red line.
