Is it really necessary in the FD?

I always thought the Audible "BEEP" as you were in the redline was good enough.

I think it is better and less gaudy as a shift light.

I have one... NOT one of those huge Monster gauges which shift light, I have a pivot shift lamp, tapped into my computer...

I think its very needed if you drag... Its not set just for
your redline, its set for your power band... Well I guess depending on which one you get....

I would also like to know where do you hook it up, or which wire do you tap it in in the ecu?

Thanks

You mean for a shift lite? Or a tach?

This is a copy and paste from Robinette's site:

Connect the tach wire to the negative wire of one of the two trailing coils. I used the #2 trailing coil (nearest firewall) and tapped into its blue and yellow wire. Set the tach’s cylinder setting to 4. Using this method my shift light would illuminate at two times the setting of the light, it was set for 3000 rpm and the light goes off at 6000 rpm so I set the light for 3600 rpm and now the light goes off at 7200 rpm.

I know that you can also tap into the tach signal from the Diagnostics connector, but I don't know which terminal to tap into.

I have a hard time hearing the buzzer W/ Dp & RB cat back. I would think the guys w/ full exhaust could not hear the buzzer at all.

True, but either way most cars are making peak power around 7200 RPM's so shifting at 8000+ would result in slower times. IMO a shift light is a must have for all racers, you'll turn in faster times and be safer at the same time since your keeping your eyes on the road.

Just the shift light. I don't want to have that big tach, when the stock one works fine. So anyone knows where to hook up just the shift light. I think they have only 2 or three wires.
