Well, since the beginning of this month, I have been installing a BAE turbo kit on my 85 12a GS. My license was suspended for 30 days for a reckless ticket. I figured I would take this down time to do some tuning. I've wanted to do this for nearly a year, but the car is my daily driver. Well, this is what my engine bay looked like prior to install:
And after buying a turbo kit off a fellow 7 member, 12 ft of new vac hose, new Walbro fuel pump, new Holley 390cfm carb and filter (you would not believe how small it is and how much room you gain!), removing rat's nest, and making fittings to keep omp functional, this is what I got so far:
I am waiting to receive an oil pedestal adapter from to give me my oil supply for the turbo, new oil pan gasket, and throttle bracket for the carb from Racing Beat. And 2.5 in mandrel bent steel tubing from Summit Racing for fabbing the down pipe and exhaust. Install AEM Rising Fuel Pressure Regulator. Need to still get new waste gate as I'm not sure how well the Turbonetics WG I have will work as it is pretty old and rusted. also got to go to the local tuner shop and get some silicone couplers. Then tune the carb. To start I will break it all in at no more than 6 psi to start. I also order an engine torque brace from Racing Beat that should be in in about a week. Well I keep an up date as soon as more parts come in!

ignitors worked great! thanks. ive heard so many rumors for this kit but very few people actually have one and most never posted numbers. im curious as to what ill put out. i have a lot of tuning to do once it is up and running so im shooting for a dyno run in September.
i just finished installing some parts from racing beat...the throttle cable bracket and oil pedestal adapter. both look great. will get some more pics up soon.

glad to hear it man, when that baby is up and running we should go cruising.
Any idea on the specs on the turbo itself. Where did you find the kit. Let me know when you get it done I would like to see it up close, and btw I will have some Turbo FB Crew window stickers for you, once it officially is running.
Good Luck

Just installed a 2nd gen Radiator I picked up for $60. Mounted by the upper brackets only right now, just have to fab the lower mount brackets and hook it up the plumbing! Finished welding -10 AN fitting to the oil pan for the turbo drain. Installing it tonight. Next is to make fitting for throttle cable to carb. Then its on to exhaust!
Heres the radiator and oil pan:

Well I decided to retire the old Turbonetics Deltagate mark II that came with the kit. It seems the last owner got the bright idea to weld the discharge flange to the W.G. and hack the pipe. So I went down the local speed shop...Axiom...and picked up a brand new Turbonetics Evolution W.G. kit. They retail for about $340, but I bought mine for $270 out the door!! Just need to get some new bolts and throw it on.

Wow what can I say?! I finished installing the turbo. Took forever to start up as everything is new. Sounded so sweet! quiet too. took it out for a couple laps around the block to lube and warm everything up. after the tenth lap I decided to see what my $1200 got me and I was taken back! It was more than I expected. I am only running 5 lbs for the break in period, but WOW...the torque was amazing. Was much quieter than i expected and spooled up nicely. I will move on up to 7 lbs when I feel comfortable with the motor running safely. I have a lot to do as far as tuning the carb but the project was well worth it! Ill post up final pics soon. Now I just have to wait to get my license back!
