I seem to be the only person here who has had trouble finding my pulsation dampener (damper? dampner?). I don't want to take off all the stuff on top of the engine until I know there is a problem.
I tried to take a picture of what I'm pretty sure is the pd. It doesn't have the white plastic piece on it. I cannot get my hand down there, and I can't see whatever is under it where gas would leak. Would gas leak onto the ground under the car?

It is out of focus in the photo, sorry. It was to dark down there for the camera to focus on it

the PD is on your primary fuel rail. Good try though. Under the throttle body.

 

The thing looks like a dumbbell with some extra things on it. I need to change mine eventually.

it is under the Upper Intake manifold to able to see it you have to take it off

 

its under your throttle body, you cant really see it unless you take the TB off. On the diagram its the red circle by the fuel filter.

 

on the 89 na it is the secondary fuel rail. You have to take off the throttle body, upper intake manifold and then you will see 2 lower fuel injectors and a rail that feeds fuel to them. This hole rail is the pd(it's really just on the end but won't come off).

 

There are two fuel rails, a long one under the intake elbow (secondary rail) that connects to the throttlebody on an NA, and a short one under the upper intake manifold (primary rail).

On an S5 (89 - 91) the Fuel Pressure Regulator is on the secondary rail (long one), you can tell it apart from the PD because the FPR has a vacuum line attached to it.

The PD is on the end of the primary rail (short one under the intake manifolds) and does NOT have a vacuum hose.

On an S5 these are both welded onto the fuel rails.

That's the right spot, but you're describing the primary rail.

look a little closer at the second picture guys. he found it... i'm not saying he can get to it as is, but he found it.

 

S5 FPDs are welded to the primary fuel rail. They don't have the white piece of plastic on them as the S4s do. It looks like you found it, but you do need to remove the UIM to get to it.

so, if it was leaking, how would I know? would gasoline bespraying out of it? or just dripping where I can't see?

Gas vapors are what you should be worried about, if you smell gas better not light anything. Thats when it blows. The gas(in liquid form) is not dangerous.
