Ok, I'm back into RX-7's after about a five year hiatus...The last time I was "in the loop" there was a guy named David Girod(I think) that had a very simple website where he displayed and sold his custom headlamp kit for a 1st gen. He also would "vent" your driver's side headlight lid, too. He sold a kit that included a custom headlight bucket with twin projector lamps in them, also with a shorter arm or something so they didn't "pop-up" as high as they do stock...I think you had to send him your old buckets and what not and he charged about five hundred for the kit. Does anyone else remember this? Did anyone buy one? Are there similar kits out like that now? The website and guy has disappeared, and now I have a 1st gen again, I really really want that kit...Anybody have any info?

 

No one makes a kit like that anymore. Check the for sale section for a guy named the wankler, he is selling a CP racing kit for 400$ if i remember correctly. thats the best/only bet you have besides making your own.

 

He's not looking for the CP kit, that one replaces the pop ups with "regular" lights that stay stationary.
sevens4me, the guy you are referring to hasn't been on here in years, his sn was badassrx7 or something like that. I talked to him about 4 years ago about this kit, and at the time he was so backed up he wouldn't take my money or parts.
I've heard of guys getting the kit made for first gen Miata's and modifying it to work on Rx-7's, but I haven't done so myself so I'm not sure whats involved.

Thanks for the responses, at least someone remembers...So nobody at all sells a headlight kit like that at all? I find that so hard to believe! What is the kit you got for your miata?

I have the vented headlight covers available in C/F or fiberglass. I used to be really keen to do dual headlights but I think I'm over it now.

Is it just the "look" that you are after, or is it performance? If all you are after is performance, then there are cheaper and more effective ways to go about it. Running heavy gauge wire through a relay to power the lights and installing Phillips Xtra Brite headlights will make a huge difference. Then you can add another relay that allows you to run both the low and high beams at the same time. That's what I did, and I have more than enough light for high speed runs in the wee hours of the morning (and I'm a lighting fanatic). I used to have a pair of 150 watt spots on the front, but I removed them because I no longer needed them.

 

It is definately the look I'm after. I don't like the stationary kit, I want side by side round projectors that pop up (but not as far as stock...). Also, because of the "ruralness" of my area, there are far too many deer, bears, etc. etc. that like to stand on the road after dark to even consider breaking the speed limit after dusk...Thanks for the info. on the Xtra brights, though!
