Rough ride and can't pull codes

I went to read my codes but the cel wasn't on. I drove it and in first it was totally fine in the beginning went into second and started to bog then the cel came on. I turned around and then in first or second it would bog down didn't matter either way. I limped back down the road back to the house popped the hood to read the codes hooked up my jumper wire turned on the ignition and once again no blink. Started it back up and no cel again. It only seems to come on after you actually drive it but once you shut it down and restart I get nothing. I can let it idle fine all day rev it up and be fine. Any ideas?

And you're grounding the Orange wire in the Green check connector and then turning the key to on?

Yes but once I shut the car off it is like the codes erase so when I turn the key on it doesn't come back on.
