Radio. Stock or aftermarket
Restoring my car and I'm about 90 % complete. Just minor details. I'd like to use my iPhone in the car. But the aftermarket radio in there is old and doesn't have auxiliary input. Was thinking of getting an original radio and putting in the casset with wire adapter to the iPhone but not sure if it's good idea or not to use a 25 year old radio again. Although I like the original look. I can easily find another aftermarket radio with auxiliary what would be better.

I would just get another aftermarket unit with aux, just for better sound quality compared to those cassette things. I'm using a Bluetooth one which did cost a bit more to buy but no need to messing around with cables etc (always had problems with wires breaking inside the aux cables). But it does use your iPhone battery up a bit.

get aftermarket headunit
Nah, I would not do that trick with the cassette player - you'll not get a good quality sound from these kind of aux inputs. Get some aftermarket headunit. With bose stereo, make sure it delivers 4ohm and ~5volts on each speaker. E.g. I've the Pioneer avh4200dvd and it works with my bose system.

If you really wanted to keep a vintage look you could wire a Bluetooth receiver adapter into the OEM stereo, or you could use a wireless Bluetooth adapter that transmits to the OEM FM receiver (search Amazon for 'Bluetooth FM transmitter'). The cassette adapter is a bad idea because it will have lots of noise and the OEM cassette player will eventually fail mechanically if it has not already done so.
If you just want good sound, then a nice new stereo would be a better bet. I have a JVC HD Stereo/CD/Bluetooth surroundsound unit in my convertible, and I don't miss the OEM unit at all, lol.

No Offense but I sort of laugh when I see "I would like to keep the stock look"..
BUT they got aftermarket wheels,.Coilovers,MOMO wheel,Racing seats..Fiberglass body kit!
The stock radio just plain sucks, unless you are in a time warp and think Michael J Fox is "da Bomb"!
Don't get me wrong,I still got a shitload of cassettes that I WISH I could play them in the car BUT I got a Stereo now that is worth MORE than what I actually Paid for the car!
My cruise time is a Rolling Concert and I crank that sucker up!
I just bought a $1K deck and plan to install that!..(lalala..can't hear you..!)
They make some inexpensive single Din's with bluetooth, etc now..price around 160 or so.They will make enough sound to get you rockin'
BUT expect the stock speakers to crap out on ya,.so if you opt to put in another sound system then I would do it as a Total Unit replacement.(meaning head-unit and speakers.)

Smells like 2 stroke.
I installed an Alpine CDE-154 BT in my daily driver last summer, and I'm strongly considering getting one for my RX-7 as well. It is a fantastic head unit, especially if you get the alpine auxiliary amplifier. I too was doing a restoration, and tracked down a factory stereo for my FC and installed it. It looks good obviously because it belongs there, but again we run into the problem of poor sound quality. Most aftermarket stereos now days (including the aforementioned Alpine) have customizable colors. This in conjunction with a clean install will look good in a restored RX-7, and sound so much better than the factory Mazda stereo.

Two choices for an easy fix:
1. Install a 12v relay as per https://www.rx7club.com/2nd-generati...faq-fc-494667/
or
2. Install an aftermarket power antenna. You can get them from your local generic auto parts store.

ordered replacement speakers and amps from Bose for the doors, waiting to install them this weekend.
I'm hearing all sorts of crap from the door speakers although rear bass works fine and I've pioneer headunit too. Kinda don't want to upgrade to aftermarket speakers yet. Hopefully I'll not be disappointed hehe.
