power issue?

Hey guys,

Sorry to make another "car won't start" thread but I've read all of the others and I feel like this may be a different problem. I just bought my FD two days ago but there was an issue starting it. I would get the infamous click but no start.

The previous owner had a workaround for it. Pop the engine bay, and he rigged a connection directly to the solenoid I assume. I would just touch the other end to the positive terminal and she would start up.

My issue now is that nothing is working. When I tried to start the car today nothing came on and I didn't even get the "click" so I just assumed the battery. I replaced the battery with a brand new one and voila, all my electronics turned back on... However as soon as I turned the key all the way to crank everything went dead.

The weird part is, when I disconnect the negative and reconnect, everything works again. Electronics come back on and radio plays, but as soon as a try to crank bam. Goes dead again.

I'm currently cleaning the battery connectors to see if that's the issue. In the mean time does anyone have other suggestions?

I'd be looking at the Switch and fuses to the engine. Also see WHY TF the guy has a 'jumper wire' to the solenoid.
The switch when in Start mode should by rights kill everything(like gauges, radio, etc) and directs power to the starter's solenoid as the car needs as much battery power as possible to the starter when it is getting started up.(that is why all **** goes dead when starting)
IF the car goes dead after you try the key then it is not right.

When trying to crank using the key sometimes the engine Cranks too slow to actually start. The engine bay rig starts it every time. (I should say used to) I

I'll check fuses today but I don't think it would be a fuse because all I have to do is disconnect the negative and reconnect and power to everything comes back

The power issue is definitely a weird gremlin I've never seen before.

OK cleaned the battery connections and tightened them down. I'm now getting consistent power and the car Cranks. It does however take a bit of time cranking (and me adding some gas pedal) to start

Im not really sure if this could be related to the issues im having but can someone please tell me what this connecter is? If you cant tell it is blue. I found it hanging out underneath the intake manifold buried between a bunch of silicone vacuum lines

After poking around in the engine bay I cant seem to find the other end to it.
