On a piston engine it is when timing and exhaust is perfectly in sync and the pressure difference applies suction to the intake port allowing a na motor to run slightly above atmospheric pressure

Actually learned it reading david vizards budget built v8 book was just wondering if it transferred over to rotaries, and thanks for the info cleared that up for me. Side note some of us youngsters actually read books still
