GXL/TII vs 240SX with mods
Hi all, I got a kill today and wanted to share it with you all .
It's finally cleared up here enough to drive my FC. I did the TII swap two years ago and have maybe driven it 5,000 miles. So I decided that now was the time. Within minutes I hit the interstate and not before long I found myself next too a kid in a S13 with a aftermarket exhaust and front lip. He looked over to me and sm led. And I did back.
I don't really condone racing of any type so I was iffy about giving him a run. But before I could second guess myself he downshifted and nice "voosh", hinting at a BOV within.
At that moment I down shifted and brought it up to 4k smoothly. Then I heard "vroom" and it was on. As soon as I hit the gas the boost gauge went right to 13 (which is what I have it set at). I pull right up to 8k and shift into 4th and the 240 slides back to my rear wheel. I was surprised that he was even pulling on me (near me for that matter). I pull harder and harder until I see my speedo needle going too far to the right and I backed off at around 115-120 or so (my speedo seems to be just a tad bit off anyways). The 240 driver flies by me and then hits the brakes. I slow down to a local gas station and he eventually meets me up there.
I talked to the guy (who was about 5 years younger then me) about our inports and what the scene around here is like. I sell tools for a small hardware company so I'm guessing I was probably at his school at one point for some reason or another.
Anyhow, looks like my seven won its first true race. I'm pretty proud of it .

strike up the paean
sounds like it was a nice friendly race. congrats.
not everyone... there's a whole ka-t community. also seeing alot more alternative swaps now. couple ca18dets, a supercharged ka, etc. even a few RBs. mckinney makes mounting kits for it now, so the process is much more simple (albeit expensive).

It was a SR-20 of course. He was a nice kid. I hope to think I was like him when I was a boy.
We'll, I'm sorta a boy-man myself Since I do happen to have a erebuni kit on my car.
It was a fun run anyhow. I miss the gxl after driving my truck around all year .

Awesome kill man, its so damn hard to get into a friendly race around here. All these damn kids (Yes I realize that I'm 17, but the maturity of these guys is really sad) want to race, but then when they get beat, they want to fight. It's like I insulted their family or something. Oh well, at least I'll be going off to college soon and they'll be here, sitting on the porch.
BTW Turbo KA's are, in my opinion, better than the SR. Well, not better...but much more bang for the buck. Turbo KA's can put out around 250 reliably for around $1000, PLUS it has much more torque. The SR20 doesnt make much sense to me unless you buy it already installed for cheap (Sentra SE-R)

I agree that the KA-T is more original, but I guess I'm more of a pureist, I like the SR20 and CA18 that they came w/ in Japan........The RB is pretty sweet too, just cuz its not available in the states.

the CA18DET is by far the best bang for the buck
with just simple upgrades, (boost controller, exhaust, front mount, etc) you are spending are 1800 for everything, and if tuned right, you can get well into the 200-300hp range
the ca18det is the cheapest engine for a 240
yeah they are old, but they can withstand just as much as an sr20, cost a third of the price, and are better designed
i'm about to do a ca18 swap into my 240, everyone here is calling me stupid, but they couldn't tell an sr from a ca anyways
theres also a pretty bad *** 2JZ 240
now thats a nice engine swap
:]

good kill, it's fun when you try to outrace a car and he stays with you right there on you bumper. that's what is all about. i have never raced an sr20 240sx, there extremely rare here in puerto rico. i would like to have a shot with one someday.

I know nothing! Help me!?
idk guys the potential of the SR and RB is just wrong the stock bottom end of the RB can handel upto about 500whp and I have already seen the power the SR can put out with just a OEM rebuilt and aftermarket cams. but torque on the KA would be nice I have seen quite a few of ka-ts pretty sweet.

Good kill. I would love to have an RB25 swapped S14... but I don't like dealing with the smog issue. A buddy of mine has an RB20 powered '75 280Z so he doesn't have to worry about emissions. His car is fast too, right next to my FD the whole time... I agree though, I like the SR20 as well, but I still have to appreciate the KA-T, as it is very capable.
