Hks twin power universal

Hi guys,

looking at buying a HKS twin power for my 1999 rx7... I can only find the 'universal' twin power and separately the rx7 fd harness.

my question is, is their any difference between the proper rotary twin power unit and the universal?? Do they operate the same??

cheers!

The rotary type has been discontinued. The universal will work with the harness.

The universal is 6 channel, it can be used for the FD 3 channel system. It will not plug into the FD installation harness. The universal has an 8 pin connection, FD harness is 6 pin.

ok thank you 👍🏼. So it's possible to modify the harness to make it work?

I have been looking at sake bomb setup for a while... looks awesome!

How much power are you making at the wheels?

i liked the hks for its simplicity but the sake bomb setup looks like it would give a stronger spark and better timing..?

The sakebomb setup is incredibly easy to install, the most "difficult" part is repinning the connector.

Sakebomb, being the great vendor that they are, have a YouTube video that walks you through it for those who are not familiar with re-pinning a connector.

My car is not on the road at the moment, but I'm anticipating 400-450whp.

thanks bro, I looked at the sake bomb website.. the setup looks clean!!

I am making 380hp at the wheels now on 13psi (Garrett gtw3884r) and hoping to get to 20-25psi, water meth and sake bomb coils

Yeah man! I think it looks great, here it is after I installed it on my car. Looks much cooler than the factory setup (works better as well, lol)

That looks mean!! Nice setup bro. And at the end of the day you have band new coils and leads which at some point would need replacing anyway!! 👌🏽👊🏼

Hello I am trying to fit the "universal" hks twin power to the fd. AFAIK the white wire on the fd specific connector goes to the leading coil and the yellow wires to the trailing coils so for the universal fitment, would it mind which of one of the 6 yellow wires goes to each coil? I supposed it has a similar cdi + transistor circuit for each pulse but the white wire thing makes me think I am wrong.

Any help is welcome

Thanks for your attention

I also have available to me a used hks twin power DLI-II with evo8 harness for dirt cheap.
hard to pass up for 75$. Could I purchased a universal harness and wire my 1988 fc factory ignition with it?

I know this is old, but does anyone have a wiring guide for converting or using the universal 8 pin to work with 2 rotor (like the 6 pin) or 3 rotor? Is it as simple as using the black and red as power and ground and just matching colors coming off the unit?

I would not take the risk (very little information about it, leading fires twice than trailing coils etc), 90% of the ignition is coming from the leading sparks. You can just amplify the leading coil signal and forget about trailing ones

Yup, for sure, that is an option but is an over kill for a single primary coil. The box should be capable of running this for sure as it's more about holding charge and dismissing it. Other coils out there can handle it.

I’m about to take my rotary hks TP off since I got the sake bomb ign kit. Just have to pick up the harness for about $45 bucks off eBay.
