1,500 miles on my LS1 powered '93 RX7
1,500 miles on my LS1 powered '93 RX7
I now have a total of 1,500 miles on my 2001 LS1 powered '93 Touring model RX7. The car has been everything that I hoped it would be.
The conversion was completed and road tested prior to Thanksgiving, but with the holiday coming up, I was unable to update the website. Upon conclusion of the car, I drove it 16hrs round trip for a total of 1,200 miles to visit the family in South Carolina without a single issue.
Gas mileage is around 28mpg, but I most admit it is difficult to measure exactly when I'm constantly rowing through the gears. Hopefully I'll eventually be able to make it through a tank of gas without giving it hell once.
The car handles very well, but I still have a small alignment issue to tackle. A bump steer correction will soon be available through the website to correct this minor issue.
The acceleration is blinding. Wheel spin and hop surprisingly hasn't been a problem. I'm finding a few seconds of wheel spin in first, and then it simply plants the 400+ lb-ft of torque for a white knuckle ride. As a result of an unofficial road test, the car is a definite 11.5s 1/4 mile car NA. Easy 10sec car on the bottle.
The car is still in need of paint and a few small appearance details. I've added one hi-res picture, a complete new page of pictures, and a short video clip of the car backing out of the drive way and starting down the road. The exhaust on the car is currently straight pipes as the Hooker mufflers I bought don't fit correctly. It sounds great at WOT, but definitely needs a muffler to clean up the sound for my personal perference. (FYI - More videos of the entertaining type will be available shortly.)
Pricing information is now available on the website for those interested in a conversion of their own. We tried very hard to make the parts reasonably priced, and I feel that we achieved this goal by offering a price hundreds lower than our LT1 conversion competition.

I look forward to reading your responses.

Thanks Mahjik. There is a short video clip of the car driving on the website now. Granted, it is pretty lame, but I will be adding more exciting clips by this weekend.

Man, it's strange seeing an FD on the screen, but hearing the LS1 engine.

well, i think they are really 346's but close enough.
go here if you dont believe me: http://www.idavette.net/hib/ls1c.html
The liners are finished with a bore size of 99 millimeters (3.8976 -in.). That, with a stroke of 92 mm (3.6620-in), makes the LS1's displacement 5.665 liters or 345.69 cubic inches. The LS1 generates 345hp at 5600 rpm and 350 lbs/ft. torque at 4400 rpm. Maximum engine speed is 6200 rpm.
As a C5 owner, I must say I love the RX7 and I love the C5, but DAMN the Video is awesome. I'm so doing this conversion with my RX7 when the rotary goes out again... LOL.... Hell does anyone want to trade a dead RX7 for a 15K mile RX7 + cash
That conversion looks great! I thought the prices for the components would be a lot more expensive, but that seems like an awesome deal!
I think as soon as my rotary blows up, I'll do the conversion.
Can you explain what other components are needed for the conversion? Maybe you could post it in the FAQ section of your website. Like if I bought a complete LS1 engine w/ a T56 six speed, what else would I need to buy? Do you still use the stock LS1 computer?

How much is a turn key conversion that will pass 50 state emission (shouldn't be hard as long as you keep the GM emission stuff on) pre-OBDII? I need to replace the rotary motor and this looks like a serious alternative.
Yea, this looks like a amazing deal. Hes going to have a lot of engines to sell it looks like. As soon as i scrounge up 1600 dollars im going to get myself ls1'ified. This is just an amazing deal.
everyone who does this conversion let me know ill buy up your RE's and build a real corvette... i am actully in the process of buying a stingray with a blow h8ter. going to put a 13b re or a 20b in it!
"We're are up and running strong."
You might want to revise that on your site.
All in all, the more I hear about the benefits of this conversion the more I want it. Maybe in the future.
Great job!!

Quit reading my mind. I'm thinking about selling my entire setup now. 13K mile motor ACT Clutch, Factory Trans, Driveshaft, Turbos, ECU and harness, Koyo radiator, Supra Fuel pump. Basically a perfect package for someone that bought a blown FD. LOL.... I just have to find some other sort of transportation while my project begins. LOL....

Where did you get the 1600 at? Looks like the price list isn't out yet.
It's not clear to me, but it looks like the listed prices don't include the engine. Looks like a great way to simplify the FD, so that it doesn't require such specialized work.

if you call it a 350
