rpm shows double in megatune

I'm not sure how to set this up to show actual rpm values. Can someone help me with this configuration?

I'm getting about double rpm in megatune than what the engine is actully spinning.

How do you know the RPM (I assume by your tach). The tach can read incorrectly if you've connected some signals wrong. In particular if you've connected the trailing coil select output from MS to the trailing coil trigger wire, the tach will read half speed.

If that's not the case, then we need some info:
  • MS board version?
  • MS code version?
  • CAS dual wheel or missing teeth?
  • Did you remember to turn off "stim for wheel"?
  • Post your MSQ
  • Does the car run?

* MS board version? 3.0
* MS code version? 029w
* CAS dual wheel or missing teeth? dual VR sensors, no missing teeth
* Did you remember to turn off "stim for wheel"? Yes
* Post your MSQ http://www.chromeaccount.com/rx7/88%...%202%20map.msq
* Does the car run? It has on several msq files I have found here on the forum, It runs best on this current one.

The only reason I like this msq file is because it is set up with the second fuel table because of my injector sizes, 550 primary and 720 secondary. I had the idle set to 1000 rpm, it sounds like it's running at the same speed but it's showing arouns 2000 rpm in megatune. The cars tach isnt yet hooked up.

well, a good way to tell whats going on would be to see what speed it cranks at. On a good battery you should see about 300 rpm... see if megasquirt confirms this, or reads 600.

Maybe tommorow I'll take a datalog and a video with my cammera, I plan on hooking up the factory tach also, hopefully that will read the real rpm, going from the yellow/blue wire from my trailing ciol pack to the yellow/blue wire on the back of my gauge cluster.

I have just installed the knock sensor electronics in my MS unit, hopefully that will uncover some of my other problems. Basicly I got it to idle well and rev ok but I'm down to small B.S. that I need to take care of.

I'm also going to install the electronic boost controller tommorow if it dont rain all day again, If it works I'll share the information to thoes who want to know. "using a $11 factory GM part"

That's the crazy thing, it reads fine like you said about cranking and as soon as it hits the 1000 rpm idle mark the megatune rpm gauge just jumps to 2000 rpm. like 990 rpm and under it's correct.

This is the only msq file that this happens with, like I said i have tried out several other msq files I have found here on the forum and other forums and the rpm reads correctly.

And yess I am looking over all the settings on these msq files befor I attempt to start my engine.

that is really odd, that it'll only do it at that RPM and above.... could you try taking one of the older MSQ's, loading it in, changing it to match the weird one, and see if it does it again?

Im interested in this GM part thing too, since i'll need a boost controller soon (6 psi is fun and all... but i want more)

Basic Settings -> Engine Constants 1, you have it set as 2-cylinder. A 2-rotor has four spark events per 720 degree cycle, so you need to set this as 4-cylinder. That will solve your double rpm problem.

Other issues:
Fast idle temp set to 52 degF
Dual table turned on together with staged injection - incompatible settings
025 style wheel decoder - has a bug at 5.5k, switch to 024

I've fixed those and a few other items. No changes were made to tables. Spark table looks fine, fuel table will need tuning for sure. Remove the .txt extension on the .msq, send it to your MS, and give it a try. Post up a datalog of your next run.
