Thumbs up Street / trackday FC, never ending project

Hey guys,

I wanted to make a fresh topic, old one is a bit messed up with lots of death pictures.

I've got my '91 FC3S about 4,5 years now and been working hard on it. Lots of things chaged, and some changed again and in the time I decided to make build it for the track but keeping it on the street.

Engine is streetported with strengthened apex seals and MFR main bearings. In combination with a BNR stage 4 turbo I should be getting very nice results how ever, with the lack of a good intercooler the engine is now limited to 6500rpm and 7psi.

Last week I ordered a front bumper, side skirts and a wing. I also ordered a rear diffuser from shine auto and Ken from shine auto is helping me big time by getting a OEM us-spec bumper shipped with other parts to his dealer in europe.

Plan with this is to get the bodywork sorted and repainted, and in combination with that new front bumper I am going to make a nice V-mount setup.

Also, something nice, I am member of the Wangan warriors crew in Holland, also with some nice cars / projects. Make sure to check out facebook.com/wanganwarriors

Nice looking setup, how long are you on the track with each session? Have you done anything different for oil cooling or still stock?

Thx guys,

@ craze, depends on how long the sessions are, but i must say that I havent been on the track a lot with this car. Hopefully more this year.

Oil cooler is still stock. On a warm day on the nordschleife it ran up to about 120 degrees Celcius what is still under the limits but as the coolant temp is a bit higher then I like, I will have other oil cooling settup so both temps drop a bit.

Speaking of the Nordschleife, I got a vid me driving there. This was the first time on the Nordschleife and the first time I took the rx7 to the track. So its no world record lap

5zigen GN+
6.5J in front and 7.5J at the back.
Got Falken semi's on them, not sure about the size tough. I think 225/40/17 and 255/40/17

@blame, absolutely!

The body work I am going to do with in these 4 months are actualy all because I want an aftermarket front bumper so I can optimize the cooling. Nice air ducts etc.

But my budget isn't to big so I have to wait a while for the V-mount build.

I also need to redo my exhaust. It is very loud, I like loud, but in europe the are being annoying with sound limits of 95DB at most tracks so it has be a bit quieter.

Oh man, driving the nurburgring is one of my life goals. I have probably driven the nordschleife more than any other track in video games, but the real thing looks incomparable even driving pretty conservatively. The part where the motorcycle pulled in front of you and hit the brakes was scary!

I am very jealous, especially since you got to do it in your own car. Being from Canada, it is pretty much guaranteed that I will never get to drive one of my vehicles on the nordschleife. You are lucky.

Post more videos if you've got them!

do you like the performance of 6.5 7.5 stagger? Have you ever found it not enough grip and wanted to go wider?

Building mine for time attack also, so just curious as circuit/time attack FC's are becoming quite rare it seems.

Seems like a lot of tire for those rim widths.

I wanted to go wider with the work I am going to do next few months, but I decided to spend the budget on something else and do this later. Wheels and tires would cost me about the same as the body parts I just ordered

@clokker, i used to have 215 front and 245 rear with the street tires. Could be that the front still is 215 but i'm not sure.

The stupid parts comes in with the rear tires. They did not have 245, and as the 235 was more expensive then the 255, I picked the 255 and they do fit fine actualy. To be honest, I like the look of fat semi's.

Last time I took the car to the track here at Zandvoort, I finaly had some time to drive for my self and learn a thing or two about my car. As you can hear, the bung is in the exhaust due the noise regulations.

I also expected more grip, so there is still a lot that can be done to improve my self and the car.

I like the fuel lines and bracket coming into the engine bay near the steering column.

I simply love this car. Between you and one other member on here, I am keeping my car red. I do not care that it costs more to spray, it just looks so good on a nice setup car.

Cheers mate!

Thanks guys!

@archaphil, I am going to respray it soon and i also keep it the same colour. It looks good, and i will not be able to pick another colour just because to many colours are nice :P

@beef, I am realy happy how that turned out. The whole setup is so that I could turn both lines into feed lines. Only thing I need to do is add another pump and run a 3th line along the other side as a return line.

I ordered the following parts:

Origin lab stream line front bumper, side skirts, garage BB rear spoiler and a shine auto diffuser. Unfortunataly i've been told that the origin lab bumpers are no longer availible, so I am probable changing this to foresight but I am realy disapointed. Altough it might be better that I order foresight side skirts. The origin ones look realy wide and I have not widened my car yet so that might look odd.

Hey guys,

Small update, I started working on it today.

Found some water slowly dripping on the ECU cover. It turned out to be a plastic nut and some weird plastic thing under the windshield that both click into the body right above the heater fan or whatever you call these.

Also got an idea to lower the passenger seat what I am working on right now.

I am hoping to recieve parts before the end of february.

Got a couple of more random pictures out of the build

Yea, dash is flocked. And I use a NRG short hub with OMP corsica wheel.

Car has some colour now, no professional paint job here! Just a n00b with a spray gun, some paint and lots of dust. Maby i'll light sand and polish it later if I ever have the patience to do so.

Well, i missed my deadline so there is no more pressure. Moved the car back to my job to work on my exhaust.

Ken from shine auto helped me with a spoiler and the diffuser I ordered via a local dealer got lost in shipping so still waiting on that.

Anyway, here are some pictures.

Ordered a racing beat downpipe and mid silencer. Bought a second hand muffler that will now be my rear muffler. The space in between needs to be custom made so i'm working on that right now. I hope it will be enough to pass DB limits on dutch tracks.

Got the car back on the road again.

Exhaust is finnished, more work then expected for a tig weld n00b.

Got a downpipe and muffler from racing beat. The muffler as seen above is for the rear and can be swapped for a straight piece of pipe going from 76mm to 100mm. But, as i discovered, this makes the exhaust kinda loud. Don't know yet how it will sound with the rear muffler on.

Anyway, here some pics

exhaust pics next page!
