What mods are needed to install a Blitz SMIC?

I did a quick trial fit of a Blitz SMIC on my otherwise stock FD, and there seemed to be clearance issues with the IC ducting, airbox bracket and airbox vent hose. I haven't been able to find many photos of the Blitz SMIC installed, what I did find seemed to show that the airbox vent hose is removed on one install, and it seems to remain on another install. I can't tell on the bracket or ducting.

I did not spend a lot of time trying to figure it out once I realized it was not a drop in, and just reinstalled my OEM IC. If someone who has installed a Blitz could help me out with actual knowledge I would really appreciate it!

I installed my blitz SMIC 12 years ago. As best I can remember, I had to grind one of the brackets just a little bit to be able to bolt it in. The rest bolted up with no modifications. All pipes lined up correctly, and all pipes were used. Nothing was blocked off. This is the only pic I have right now.

Thanks. I will try again with the airbox removed - it does seem like the bracket tab hits the IC and that some trimming will be necessary.

I have one installed. I already had a hks rs intake and turbojeff battery kit. I did have to buy 2 silicone hoses to install it.

I just slapped mine straight in. No issues whatsoever. I don't have stock intake piping though.

Yeah Adam, flying under the smog guy's radar...I thought I was being all original by painting mine black.

I filled in the "blitz" letting on top with JB weld. Then sanded it smooth and painted with Black BBQ paint. It turned out pretty good. Flying under the radar

^ hah, very sneaky.

Makes me happy to be in FL, where zero effs are given about emissions. I love the look of the polished Blitz, logo and all.

Well I got the Blitz IC fitted, I know that other users reported this as a drop in but it was not quite that for my case.

At first it seemed like the airbox mount that faced the IC would interfere so to start I removed it and the metal mount just to clear some room.

Then, it was obvious that there was no way that the IC would fit with the correct distance to attach to the front mount bracket using the air deflector as it was for the stock IC...the bottom section protruded too far and interfered with the thicker core. So I wound up trimming the bottom edge (where it makes a 90-degree turn to fit against the bottom of the stock IC) to completely remove that part, and about 2mm more. Then, I was able to get the IC in the correct position and angle, and get all the bolts to line up - and it was a very tight fit. I wound up just using the 2 top air deflector bolts as the bottom part was up against the IC and it was not going anywhere. I used some door weatherstrip as seals between the air deflector and IC.

Now that the IC was bolted in it was on to the airbox. Sure enough, the edge of the airbox lid hold down clamp hit and needed some slight trimming, about 10mm. The metal upright just barely cleared with a couple mm of space.

Once the airbox was back in I saw that there was just barely enough space to refit the airpump bypass air hose and clamp, although the rubber hose just slightly rubs the IC that is probably okay and I am glad that I was able to refit that hose.

I like the finished product although I may tweak the bottom of the air deflector to enlarge it a little (there is about 1/4" that is not serviced by the air deflector due to the core being slightly taller), so that the entire core receives airflow. I used the hoses that the seller supplied plus one of my OEM ones, I need to get something better though as these fit too loose for my taste and I want to use black hoses that look more OEM. I will also be doing the "stealth mod" per adam c to the upper tank keep the b@st@rd CA smog check inspector happy...

Here are a few pics:
