oil in my intercooler piping
oil in my intercooler piping, I was pulling it out to change all my couplers and there was a siginificant amount of oil, is this normal? I have a rotary extreme vmount.

it all kinda depends. a little bit of oil can be normal, but your turbo could be on its way out or in need of a rebuild. if there's oil in your pipes, the oil seals on the turbo are blown or on there way there.
you should clean all of your pipes out and flush the intercooler. once that's done check it out a week later to see how bad the turbo is blowing by oil

i had this too. if you look on your oil filler neck there is a nipple that faces down and there is a hard line connected to it. if you then look on your front turbo intake elbow there is another hard line going to it. it releases the pressure from the crank case to the intake system and which in turn blows oil into it.. as long as its not alot and just a residue or so then it should be fine.

94tkt, is pointing out if you track your car oil sloshes up the neck which both get injested via the intake and pipes it to the turbo intake. there was a huge thread on the catch cans which on some cars solved the problem.

In most cases it's not a mechanical problem, merely poor PCV (positive crankcase valve) system design. Under hard g loads, either lateral or under acceleration and braking oil can migrate up the oil filler neck. Wih oil up the filler neck, as soon as the engine goes into vacuum (lift throttle) the intake will suck that oil right up out of the filler neck and into the intake (UIM) and or the intake pipeing and IC as there is a vacuum tap formthe filler neck to the upstream end of the intake (prior to the turbo)

A VERY common mistake in the early days, clueless Mazda mechancis would diagnose this as blown turbo seals and replace perfectly good turbos. Not to say this can't happen but be sure it is a real issue and that you aren't chasing a ghost.

Damn, me too!
I had oil in my intercooler pipes and some oil use to leak frome the intake pipes from the turbo's so i replaced them and i still seem to burn alot of oil. Every time i start it up in the morning in neutral, crap loads of smoke comes out with the old set and new set of twins. (the new set of twins i got was supposeable rebuilt). could the pcv also cause lots of blue smoke to come out during start up and go away during opperating temps.

Mine cant be the 99spec turbos, I visually inspected them and they seem to be fine, vaccume and boost are both normal. Chuck at Rotary extreme built this car, it was his final one. I only have about 4K miles on the motor and the turbos.

Worn emgine internals will also cause excess blowby (side seals and oil control ring seals) and oil pan pressure leading to more oil being pushed out through the filler neck and PCV system. Depending on engine age and condition it can happen under normal street driving as well.
