Kill switch

I'm still learning my way around the FD but would really like to make some sort of hidden kill switch against theft. Up until now I was just pulling the egi fuse but that gets to be annoying after a while.

Was hoping someone could suggest a good wire to get at inside the cockpit to make a hidden switch from.

I don't want to mess with any power or ground wires, so it has to be some kind of signal wire like for a relay or something.

Would really appreciate some suggestions.

There are quite a few inside the cabin that can be used- there are ECU input signals you can interrupt that will cause a no start condition, or flood the engine via repeated cranking and no firing (then NOBODY would be able to start it)

However I'm not going to suggest any specifics in the open on a public forum, as that would give the game away. If you'd like further info, send me a message and I'm happy to detail things further.

I would strongly suggest not openly posting your anti theft setups here, as these cars are increasing in desirability, and we don't want to make it easy for would-be thieves.

OK, let's not get carried away. Yes, anything's possible, but I doubt there's a lot of risk from anyone traveling to "North GA" to find, follow and steal the OP's car.

My first thought is to simply run a quality switch in the power supply to the fuel pump. Place the switch in an area of the interior that's out of sight but that can accessed without weird contortions.

No one except a criminal of opportunity or joy-riding hoodlum is going to break into a car and try to steal it the old fashioned way any more. A real pro is going to tow the thing and it will be in a million pieces before you realize it's missing.

GPS might find it a few hours or days after it's gone. After it's been driven like it was stolen (because it was) or stripped. That might lead to a suspect which might make you feel better. But the final outcome will almost certainly be a new/different car.

I disargee. I live in the center of 3 of the 5 cities with the highest car theft rates in the nation. People still steal cars the old fashion way.

Modern GPS trackers have down to 5 second latency and notify you when something that isn't supposed to be moving does. They're pretty slick. A little pricey, and you have to tend the battery or do something fancy.

In my experience, which is based on the older systems/services, theives were getting wise to them. Once moving they didn't stop and when they did, they'd bale immediately and have someone doing counter-surveillance. Regardless your car is not where you left it, and will probably come back from Impound covered in print dust and damaged.
IMHO, a simple, reliable kill-switch with the factory alarm is the preferred first-line defense.

I have kinda related question...

My DD (Neon04) out of no where stop getting fuel to the fuel rails, discover that no power gets to the fuel pump.

So I hooked up a toggle switch from the battery directly to the fuel pump and also 30amp in line fuse.

Now the only way for me to drive the car is to activate that switch.

My question is;

Is it bad for the fuel pump to be running straight from the battery with a toggle switch ?

You need a fuse in-line so that you don't explode. Other than that, it's what people do to upgrade their fuel pump wiring.

SO....

My team had a group building event that i didnt attend last night. One of my co-workers got car jacked. Pulled into the parking lot, gets out of the car, man with a knife. Gimme the keys.

Kill switch could have prevented this.

Just thought I'd share. When i found out I instantly thought of this thread.

Just to bring up a good point, if someone is really determined or motivated enough to steal a car or break into the house...etc. There really isn't much that we can do to stop them, however, we can at least try and make it more difficult for them

Otherwise, why even bother locking your doors when jackers can just stalk you with a gun or something when you're outside.

Bro, I might be dumb enough to try and disarm someone with a knife. Glad your coworker is OK.
Also, mace. It'll reduce the baddest of badasses to something you can handle. Unless they're on pcp.

That could go both ways, what if he tried to get away and it didn't start due to said kill switch. Comes back to the guy and stabs him just out of being pissed off. Would much rather have that kind of crazy far from me.

might be a good idea to splice into the fuel pump relay trigger wires, don't splice into the actual load wires for the fuel pump.

then u might hear the car start but die after a second or two, then it just wont start again,
theif may run off then since the initial noise of it starting and now its not working, he wont have time to troubleshoot it undetected.

My anti-theft device is a ceramic puck clutch.

Most folks have trouble with those.

No, not really a street car anyway.

How would I go about hooking a kill switch up? Should I run the wires into the fuel fuse and then into a switch and hide it?

jordan distributors inc makes a tracker/kill switch for the rx7 that gives live updates as well as lets you put certain restrictions on where the car can go all for around $300
