Well I was fitting the bumper and doing the wiring changes last night and I got looking at the 99 bumper. The holes are all there for the aluminum piece that attaches the bumper to the core support but no aluminum piece. I still have my 93 bumper that I can take it off of but it seems like something the 99 bumper should have come with, am I wrong?

Well it is attached to the old bumper by rivets so I can drill them out then re rivet it to the new bumper but that is a lot of work and may look like poo considering what I just paid for the setup.

Let me know what you all think, seems to me like it should have come with a new set pieces.

the 99 bumper should have come with the aluminum core support piece...its different than the 93's sooo you should take you bumper back to whoever you bought it from and complain...because you NEED that aluminum piece to complete the bumper swap....well good luck and peace out

Not if you bought it new. The pieces are also the same for both, and interchangable. Mine 99 bumper did not come with them, and I simply drilled out the aluminum rivets and swapped them onto the 99 bumper.

I got mine through the RX7 store brand new. It definately didnt come with it but doesnt seem like a big deal to drill out and rivet it back to it.

It would have been nice to have it come with it though

I actually used stainless machine allen screws and bolts, though I'll see about using aluminum or stainless rivets if I find them. Every gram counts, I guess hehe.

7racer: We are (or at least I am) talking about the aluminum support brakets that run along the edge in front of the headlight covers and across the center. A third center peice provides the attachment to the car frame. They peices also have rubber 'weather strip' trim attached, which can see. I have pics from a previous thread that I'll post in a second.

Exactly that is the same thing I am talking about. You HAVE to have that cause not only is the how it attaches to the core support in the center of the bumper but also how it attaches to the sides at the fenders. Without it your bumper isnt attaching to the car and your surely dont want to just mount it directly through the urethane of the bumper cause it would tear out in a heartbeat.

I'll try to put together a writeup on '99 nose, including how I'm going to shave the license plate wart. In the middle of doing body work right now, and will hopefully start painting in the next two weeks.

What size Rivets did you guys use?

I reused my aluminum rivet...the body shop i went to did a really nice job of fitting it. Don't forget to order left and right oil cooler undercovers....you'll have two big gaps without them and you need them to bolt to the fenderwells.

This is just the thread I was looking for. On my front bumper, the "weatherstripping section" in front of the passenger side headlight got bent back and twisted so that it's in the path of the headlight's pop up movement. This happened after a well known shop reinstalled my bumper after doing some engine work. They claimed that it was misaligned to begin with...but I have my doubts since everything lined up perfectly before they did their work. In any case, since it was in the path of my headlight, it caused my headlight to jam, not to mention snapping something in the process, and the strip to be even more damaged. I think I need to replace the whole thing now. Anyone know how much it would cost and what the part number is?
