3 mods 2 much?

alright im new 2 this forums thing. But seen it and it seems there is people who all come on here and give ideas and opinions on rx-7's. anyway i got a question. I had my 1993 base model for about 8 months now and iv put a aluiminum ast, the car came with a down pipe cat back, boost gauge and turbo timer. I had bought a cusco strut tower bar a/f gauge and oil pressure and a tripple a-pillar pod from autometer. i also got msd wires and ngk plugs and also a apexi blow off valve. was just wondering cause i had good luck with the car so far if i put intake do u u think it would be to much before i need a ecu thanks i gotta go 2 class peace

you will be fine with the intake running your stock ecu.

beside you will be needing a cold air intake, the 7 is in need of one. YOu could even get a exhaust if you feel like it.

but once you start going deep, with the midpipe, hi-flow, and more boost, you will be needing a ecu, PFC is the best.

Keep the boost at 10 (Read: TEN) and you can run most all the bolt-ons and still be safe. Keep the stock, or at least a hi-flo cat on there unless you port your wastegate. For the non-believers, ask Wade.

I DONT REALLY ALWAYS WATCH THE BOOST GAUAGE AS MUCH AS I SHOULD CAUSE IM USAUALLY WATCHING THE ROAD BUT I USUALLY GET BETWEEN 9LBS AND 11LBS. 1 TIME I WAS DRIVING IN PENSLVIANA WITH IT AND IT WAS LIKE 10 DEGREASE AND I MUST HAVE HIT LIKE 13LBS OF BOOST I GOT NERVES BUT I FIGURED IT WAS OK CAUSE IT WAS SO COLD. I ALSO WAS DOING 150 MPH LOL SHHHHHH. ALSO I WANTED 2 GET A POWER FC BUT EVERY1 IS SAYING GO HALTECH MO-TECH OR MICROTECH. EVERY1 IS SAYING THE POWER FC IS VERY LIMITED BUT I SEE ALOT OF CARS IN THE MAGAZINES WITH IT, BUT MY FRIEND HAS A RX-7 WITH A T-76 HE GOT HALTECH IN THERE AND HE ALSO HAS A 1ST GEN TUBE FRAME HE IS BUILDING AND JUST GOT MIRCOTECH FOR THAT. ALSO I GOT A SHOP NOT FAR FROM ME IN JERSEY CALLED ACOSTA AND THEY ACT LIKE POWER FC ISNT EVEN A STAND ALONE. PLUS I DONT REALLY KNOW ANY POWER FC TUNERS IN NY.

first he may not be fine with the intake
second he does have an exhaust he said catback its the same thing

you need to be careful
1. Make sure your boost gauge reads accurate. The line isnt cracked thats going to it and its not a pos etc.
2. The boost must not go over 10psi

This is the reason why....at some points the stock ecu gives fuel cut at 10.7 and that will make your engine run lean for a second and it could cause it to break
heres when it happens so you believe me and more importantly understand. Now the reason you cant run 10.7 is that with running the same boost even you are adding A TON of hp with just the intake and exhaust mods which leans out the maps written on the ecu.

fuel cut psi on differnet rpms
1000 11.8
2000 11.8
3000 12.4
4000 13.3
5000 11.3
6000 10.7
7000 10.7

I don't think I am going out on a limb, by saying that the PFC seems to be the most popular computer upgrade on the market for the FD right now. I'm sure you can find someone in NY who can tune it for you.

The PFC is for street-driven cars and can handle more mods than you will likely ever use. The Haltech and others are more designed for race cars IMO.

Wrong. The stock air box provides the coldest air intake temps of anything on the market (with the possible exception of the PFS).

Because most aftermarket intakes are smaller and allow room for other upgrades IE: intercooler..

1200s and 850s are good for 525rwhp according to the fuel chart. Im talking with steve now trying to make march 5-7 in alabama

and the stock one isnt the best if you buy the ntech and do a little routing of air to it...but its no longer being sold

The stock intake does provide the coolest air intake. It's small diameter, and winding path makes it very restrictive. It just doesn't flow enough cool air. The stock box can be modified to flow as much (or more) air as the aftermarket boxes.

This is what I did to open up my stock airbox:

The racing beat intake is like an "addition" to the stock box.. its just an air duct to the box.. u gotta move the fuse box out though..

Why? There are many companies making better/as good as modifications as Apexi. Also, the American parts often have better fitment and are certainly cheaper.

Yes, the Apexi intake air temps will be higher than stock or M2/Rx7fashion/Rotary Extreme/PFS. You won't be using any of the aftermarket intakes with a single turbo.
