Rx7 is bogging down in high rpm..engine light coming on
A few weeks ago I slid off a windy road into a little mound and gave my rx7 a good little jolt. Around this same time the car has started bogging down when i try to accelerate quickly. When i floor it just hits a point where it wont rev any higher. The engine light comes on but is off when i restart the car. If I drive real gradualy the light wont come on until i hit third. Seems like its a fuel or mixture problem but I really dont have a clue. Has anyone had the same problem?
btw, i took it to get diagnosed and when I came by to pick it up they stated that the engine light wasnt on and they saw no problem...I guess I didnt tell them they needed to drive it to get the light to come on. No charge but no help either.
Thanks for any feedback,
--Marc

I had this problem too. Right about at 7k rpm. It wouldn't rev any higher and would start losing a lot of power.
I replaced my TPS with one i bought of some guy on the forum. and set it using digital multimeter and now i can pull all the way to redline smoothly with no engine check light. So you might wanna test your tps and see if theres any deadspots cause it might just be dead at WOT.

Went and tested it out...
The engine light came on between 4 and 5rpm. The car will sputter at any rpm when i floor it. Doesnt really matter how fast im going just how much gas I give it. There was also a small backfire. Something else that didnt look good is when i started a gust of smoke that I couldnt see through came out the exaust. The car has been sitting for a few months but I have driven it twice today.
Could the timing being off cause the sputtering? What about a bad cad conv? I also saw a post talking about the 3800 RPM Hesitation due to bad grounding.
Man, I have a lot to learn about my rx7.
Thanks for the responses.

I just posted in your other thread the answer to this problem. It's your OMP. Your ecu is going into limp mode under high throttle. Check the codes its throwing to be sure. 1300cc.com has a writeup on code checking.

Thanks Omixeo...I tested the codes
and its not showing any codes stored. I tried the process several times and the engine light would go off for a second or two and then come back on with no blinks to follow. So Im kinda stumped. When i had the diagnostic done a few weeks back they stated there were no fault codes either. Not sure if the engine light coming on and then not showing when i restart the car is of any significance or not.
I am completely stumped now as Im not sure what could cause my problems that wouldnt show up when running the check.
Thanks for the help!

Hmmm...........well Id still bet money its the oil metering pump. Its a common problem with S5's, happened to me. Try replacing it and it will probably fix the problem. Be careful though, don't drive it a lot with a bad OMP. Not only is is harmful to your engine, it can damage your ECU as well.

Thanks Omixeo...reading into some posts
i am seeing similar issues with grounding problems along with clogged cats. What are your thoughts with those two possibilities?
Thank you kindly,
