problems setting up
I know this is an rx7 site but this is the most helpful place I have found re wolf 3d’s so I thought I would ask a question.
Well firstly I have a Toyota 1jz-gte (auto) in a Corona. I have had the wolf running for a while but only doing fuel as the mechanic said it could not split the crank angle sensor between stock ecu (auto) and wolf (ignition). So I have now manualised my auto and have been trying to wire the wolf to control the ignition.
My engine has a single igniter and 6 coils which are in a coil on plug configuration. I am still not sure if it is sequential or waste spark in stock form as there has been conflicting info.
I have a wolf 3d v4 not a + version so I am wiring for waste spark.
I have wired the crank angle and cam sensors like this: crank is ne and ne- and cam is g and g-
I have ne- and g- wired together and they go to pin 27.
Ne goes to pin 28
G goes to pin 6
I have igt 1 to igt 1&6, igt 2 to igt 2&5, igt 3 to igt 3&4. The first ones are from the wolf and the second is to the igniter.
At the moment, the input trigger LED is not on? I have installed a signal conditioning box also. The ignition lights are cycling through 1-4 and I am only getting spark on cylinders 2 &5.
I have been using my old map with the wolf base map settings in it and the wolf base map however I was told that the base map is a bit iffy. I am fine with the input trigger settings and the engine setup trigger settings but I am not sure about the ignition sequencing. My firing order is 1,5,3,6,2,4 so I think it should just be igt 1,2 and then 3. I am unsure what numbers need to go where in the ignition sequencing though.
If anyone could help me, that would be great as I am just about ready to sell this thing and get a microtech if I can’t get this sorted this week.
Thanks
Chris

Sound like a question for NYT, Michael Smith, or the US wolf distrubutor, Chris Green "RLC" on these forums....... also do a searh on here for "ignition sequincing" and read some of the posts by the same guys I listed above and see if that gives you any insight....

Hi Chris do you have some data on your engine like a manual on the 1jz-gte engine and Crank angle sensor this will give us all a idea on whats happening and how to get it to work if you can.

This is some info. I was given about the 2jz which is very similar to the 1jz in just about all aspects.
The problem is that I don’t know where I am supposed to put all these figures.
Also, I have a guy who has given me his .wmf file that is running on a 1jz-gte with no crank angle sensor mods except his is a v4+ and mine is v4 so I am waste spark and he is sequential. SO would I be right in assuming that it is only the ignition sequencing that I need to change if I have wired it correctly?
I can put a link up to the .wmf file if you want to have a look at it as well.
I hope this is all the info. You need as I really want to get this working soon. Have a race meet in 3 weeks.
Thanks
Chris

don't know what sort of ignition setup is in the wolf but this is the ignition setup for a Haltech on a 2jzgte , Trigger type ( 24 tooth + 1 , full sync ) Trigger edge (Falling ) , Home edge ( Rising ) Trigger angle ( 80 degree BTDC ) , Tooth offset ( 9 ) , Spark edge ( Falling ) , Dwell Mode ( Constant charge ) using the front cam sensor . Hope some of this helps .
Both the Ne- & G1- should goto a sensor ground . NE is trigger G1 is home .

well, the V4 and 4+ are fully compatable. The sequencing you just have to copy, from the wmf file. after all, it controls the 1325etc. that is always the same...ie firing order. Regards the cam sensors, pretty much is as it is the haltech. sometimes its trial and error for the offset etc.
but the sequence will remain the same with cas, hall sensors or reluctors. that is a firing order not a wolf order
nyt and michael might have alot more insight in the wiring up of the triggers, I ended up plug n play from V4+...
Regards and Keep well

Hi Chris you may be out of luck using the stock ignitor. I had a hunt and these need a wire for each plug Plus another lead to fire the spark plus a earth... It looks like the ignitor carries 6 indiviual ignitors in the pack and only the one selected fires when the other lead is pulsed. I need to look a little deeper but the Cam sensor has 3 discs and pickups.
I will have a look at the Haltec stuff and then see if it is going to be easy or hard.

first one is working on another car.
Second one is mine.
Ok, well if I can't use my igniter then I am pretty sure I can't use the stock coils either. I was told by auto elec that sequential coils can't be used in waste spark mode.
So the way I see it my options are:
1. get a waste spark igniter and 3 dual outlet coils and mount them somewhere. Need leads as well obviously.
2. Go for a set of ls1 coils (inbuilt igniters) and leads.
3. Sell wolf get microtech and use inbuilt igniter and stock coils. (I know this works as mate has 470rwhp with this exact setup)
And that is it I think.
Opinions?
