how do i hook up a 86 leading coil to my wolf v3.1.theres 3 wires coming from the igniter.one is black one is a light brown and the other is pink.does the light brown go to a switched + power and the pink go to the wolf.

Ok I will have a look at my old coils now is this a Version 3 or version 4 Wolf because it does make a difference. I ran S4 coils and ignitors on my version 3 no problems but my Version 4 wouldn't I had to go to Bosch coils and individual ignitors. Now Since then I have learned more about the Version 4 Wolf and maybe something can be done to run the very strange setup that the Series 4 engines used, Series 5 engine/ignitors worked for some reason its been a long time. What exactly do you want to do. Run only the coils with custom ignitors or run standard equipment??

thanks.just the stock leading coils and ignitors with a wolf v3.1.i tried yesterday hooking the tan wire to the switchable positive and the pink to the wolf.i'm getting spark.so looks like that works.i just dont want to burn anything out.now i have to find the right coil charge time.

 

Ok don't do anything more you may kill your ignitor.. I really need a better idea of what you are doing. What I need is a idea of what you are doing with with what wires from the Wolf
You have a
Ground pin 31 Blue/Shield
IGN1 Pin 32 Red
IGN2 Pin 33 Yellow
IGN3 pin 34 Grey
IGN4 Pin 16 Green

What mode do you have the Wolf in. (should be standard Rotary Mode)
Do you have these coils connected to a Distributer or Direct Fire. WIth the Version 3 you can only wire it 2 ways.

i have it set to standard.and its direct fire.the ground blue shield i didnt use.and i hooked the "ign1 pin 32 red" to the pink wire on the igniter.

guess i should of said.i'm installing it on a 6 cylinder.so i'm using 3 leading coils from a rx7.

 

That makes more sense. Now from memory if you don't use the ground you will not get any spark because this is used as a floating return line for the ignition circuit. (a common cause of NO SPARK)
Second the ignitors are in the Trailing coil pack and it is my understanding that the leading pack is only a coil. So pin A is +12V and the Ground is switch via a IGNITOR that you must provide and don't use a bosch one because you will cook it!! You could in theory use a Series 5 ignitor removing the 2 trailing coils and relpace them with Leading coils.( This is theory OK I have never done this it may not work!!!) BUT it MUST be a Series 5 and Series 4 ignitor works differently.

So to sum it up you need the earth connected and 3 ignitors to drive the coils

IGN1 IGN2 IGN3 plus the earth 6 cylinder direct fire from the Wolf

i bought 3 leading coil packs 86-91.the coil is on top and bolted under them is the ignitors.they even say ignitors on them.i only tried them so far for a few minutes.now im really confused.on ebay they are these ones.do a search on ebay for this number 130129761315

OK I had a quick look and it does say it has a Ignitor it looks like a Series 4 Leading coil Reading from the Manual it said you have a Black/Yellow which has +12V and Green/yellow which is the signal from the ECU The 12V also has a condensor to earth to stop noise.

thanks.so does that sound correct.the pink wire on the igniter what i guess would be green/yellow on the wiring harness have that go to the wolf.and light brown to the +12v and that would be black/yellow on the wiring harness.the light brown in the igniter also goes to a resistor inside.think its a resistor.its a bigger square ceramic one.then that goes to the coil.

I had a look at my wiring harness and my coils it is a S4 Leading Coil and the Wires on the coil are Pink and Brown the wires going to the coil are Brown and Brown WTF not a Green/yellow or Black /Yellow to Be seen so thats great. Sorry I can't help because the coils are no longer fitted to my Car. Maybe someone else knows..
Anyone??? But the +12 going to a current limiting resistor sounds right!!!

i found this site.on the site it shows green/yellow,black/yellow.so i would think it is the same as the brown,pink.and i guess like you said i still have to hook up the blue ground to the base of the ignitor/coil?
