Ignition compensation?

I am going to invest in some dyno time (turns out i have some cheap dyno's local) to do the finishing of my fuel and ignition maps. One thing I havent seen is people using the ignition compensation mondifiers.

Should i use ignition modifiers? Are there any sercumstances where i should pull a degree or more?

I live in new england where the seasons go from a 90's summer, to a friged near zero winnter, with the inbetweens's being near freezing, and very damp, i just dont want to drive till summer and then something be set wrong.. BOOM, no sports car for the summer, back to the GEO XFI (please no.)

Here is what I have.

For the Engine Temp Compensation I have nothing from about 56C to 90C.

Below 56C the timing ADVANCES linearly to +7*BTDC (of compensation) at around -10C. From then on its flat at +7*BTDC.

Above 90C the timing gets RETARDED linearly to -10*BTDC (of compensation) at 110C. Then keeps flat from there as well.

For Air Temp Compensation I have nothing from 8C to 48C.

Below 8C timing ADVANCES linearly to +5*BTDC at -34C. Then continues flat.

Above 48C timing gets RETARDED linearly to -10*BTDC at 84C. Then continues flat.

How did you arrive at these #'s? Read somewhere? self tuned? dyno'd? Just curious, i have no personal experience on the subject

These numbers are from a PFC basemap for an FD. The PFC basemap is supposed to be identical to the factory Mazda map. I figured if its safe for the -REW it's safe for my 13BT.

Mainly, I wanted ignition compensation for track lapping days. There my car runs elevated coolant temps due to the big turbo and FMIC. I wanted a safety net when the temps got higher than normal. A slight reduction in timing means less overall heat.

On the street, my car doesn't reach the levels of coolant and air intake temperatures where timing compensation becomes an issue.

This is what I'm getting. Could not interpolate exactly with your figures. Wolf only uses certain increments. Take a look see. What do ya think. They are the individual tables....csv files.

I would post them, but I'm running a Haltech now. My map wouldn't do you any good. Unless you wanted to download the HalwinX software to look at the tables

Basically, what I would do, is insert my beginning and ending numbers into your map, and then manually determine the increments between them and type them in.

Halwin has a nice linearization feature, where you can type in the extreme values and the software will do that automatically.

Hmmm. Either I'm going crazy, or those compensation tables are all at 0...
