Wacky, that's definitely the way to do it. A bunch of us met up in Ontario at 7:30 last year and made it into Vegas without hitting any traffic and we managed to avoid most of the CHP cruisers.

 

from barstow to LV there's really only one hotspot for the CHP which is coming down the hill from Vegas into Baker, i don't even know if they pay attention to the traffic coming up the hill but i really pay attention while going down from vegas. most of the rest are just randoms that roll by at about 90mph checking with the flow of traffic. i almost always see a CHP sitting by the bush on the straightaway heading down into baker.

usually doing about 80-85 there's always someone going faster that you will see pulled over around the mid point after they pass me as i cruise by and laugh as the CHP finally catches up with them.

 

I'm not concerned about the cops as I'm familiar with the I-15. I always do a turn around trip, at least once a month (3hours max from LV to LA). Its the summer heat that I'm trying to avoid since I have no A/C in any of my RX-3s.

 

My family will be going also so they will take another car. They will be in front of me as I dont want them to smell the fumes. However, if they decide to go a later time, I may caravan with you guys. I will let you know.

And yes, there is always a car event at Orleans. A few months ago, there was a car show so everyone where dressed in 50's ala Grease, a bunch of dorks with fake tatoos
