Why do so many cars in Cali have salvage titles?

Why do so many cars in Cali have salvage titles?
Coming from Florida where you don't see a lot of salvage titles at all, I see a TON of salvage titled cars in Cali. So many are salvaged from the slightest car accidents as well. Is there some hardcore laws in Cali about salvaging cars, or is it the insurance companies?

This is where a lot of cars come to die. Everyone needs a car here, so the market is huge for cheap cars. Also a high amount of Katrina flood cars got shipped over here and are placed on used car lots all over.

The insurance companies are mostly to blame for salvage titles. when the cost to repair exceeds the perceived value of the vehicle they automatically declare the car a total loss. If you try to save the car and put it back on the road then the car gets branded as a salvaged title. I had a 1970 Ranchero that was almost in mint condition a few years back. Some idiot ran a red light and clip the front of the truck. It caught my fender and ruined my hideaway grille. The fender was cheap, but a replacement grille was going to run me 2500 bucks. They declared the car a total loss beause the insurance didn't feel my truck warranted 2500 for a grille. I fought them on it and lost. Ended up fixing the truck for 800 bucks total and it was good as new. The insurance only called one place and got a quote from that and that was it. Oh and they only valued my truck a 1970 M code Ranchero with 351 C 4v, factory bucket seats, shaker hood, full center console and ribbon tach at 2500 bucks. At the time I think the going rate on that truck was 7 grand. Then the market went up.

In truth, the only effect a salavage title has on ownership is you'll be limited to getting Liability insurance only, no Collision or Comprehensive coverage. But, considering this loophole tool, what they charge makes no sense when compared to what they'll pay at the most.

The problem with Cali drivers (not all but a good population) is that they will NOT go on and do whatever it is they're trying to do.
Turn signals on for 1/4 of a mile before they change lanes

Cali also has a really high insurance fraud rate. I can name 3 shops right now that lease cars with friends and family and all you hear at night are the awful screeching tire sounds followed by a loud explosion.... guess what that is...
Its easy to damage a nice car and get a salvaged title and the go buy it for cheap with almost no visible damage.
That and all of the cars that are stolen here every year.

Classic car insurance is the only way to go - and get it appraised....
