no i answered all of your questions.
it is all dependant on the person who is buying/owning it
1) why would a person buy a fc over a 240sx? becuase that person likes the fc better
2) how reliable/durable is a fc? depends on how that person takes care of it

Do a search in the second gen forum...there are many posts about this...
But this is why I chose the FC over the 240:
50/50 weight distrobution
lower, wider track
shorter wheel base (makes it very responsive)
rotary
I always wanted one
no back seats
enough room to fit my kayak
cheaper
looks cooler

Usually cheaper than the 240sx.
Has a turbo model available while the 240sx you'd have to turbo the KA or swap in a sr20det. $$$
Looks cooler.
Rotary aka exotic.
Just drive one.
240SX
Piston motor.
I'm not sure about this, but better gas mileage on the freeway i'm assuming.
Easier to work on if you're more accustomed to piston engines, but I learned about rotaries pretty quickly.
Usually 4 seater so you can fit more than your gf in the car, albeit not that comfortably.
I say take either one out for a test drive and compare. I got my fc because I liked the style, was intrigued by the look and sound of rotaries, and it's something different. I hardly see any on the road and when I do the driver is usually waving at me cause i'm in another rotary. No one ever waved at my in my honda cause they were in another honda. Rotary owners are something else. Piston owners are everyone else.

To be honest, I bet every person that ownes a 240 thinks the FC is a better looking car. It's got better suspension and works better on a track. The only advantage a 240 has is the weight difference front to rear and that's only an advantage when drifting.
The reason most people chose the 240 over the FC is because they're scared of the rotary engine. Soo many nightmare stories going around that it makes most people leary of approaching a friends car let along buying one of their own.
As a result, clean, running FC's are now looked at with a higher respect than a clean 240sx.

For someone like me (6'2" 215lbs) the FD was just too cramped. Less headroom than even my vert with the roof up, and seemed much tighter door to door as well. Of course the FD seems to have about half the trunk size of a FC (even though they are simular).
And lets face it, the FD plastics durability make the FC look like a Mercedez.

the only plastic piece i've had problems with in the fd are the scuff plates on the bottom of the door frame. but i've got a 94. the 93's had that funky coating on the plastic...maybe that's what you were talking about. but yea, they sucked.
i have noticed that fd owners tend to be stuck up snobby bitches (with exceptions, of course). fc owners are too poor to be snobs
