funny, at the rev it up, i drove the msp miata in manual, and the rx-8 in manual. But i think this event is different. If you read it, it says they have 3-4 different tracks for you to "race on" to hit the best lap time. miata's i'm almost positive it's gonna be manual. That'll rule out the noobs!!! The SUBARU event (car and driver) was ALL automatics, but you get to ride with a pro.

Don't hold your breath too long, Mazda always has MT there

i think this is slightly more hardcore than rev it up, but i suspect all the cars for the "race" portion will be automatics. for the test drives they might have a few sticks there

i'm going sat morning

all 4 tents have both auto and stick. good luck on turning off the raction control on the 8's. hitting the button only turns off part of the traction control. to drift the car you need to turn it off entirely. otherwise you will just look silly. by lunch time the wait was almost 2 hours at the rx8 tent. im not sure how long it was at the others. to get more time behind the wheel show up EARLY. be kind to the pro-drivers, we had to sit in the passenger seat of the rx8's for 8 hours with only one 30 minute break. just a hint, it doesnt hurt to ask for extra laps if there is no line and your nice about it...

it is very funny, occasionally we forget to turn the traction control back on after one of our "demo" laps. its pretty easy to spot as the car usually ends up rather sideways and out of control. unfortunately a spin will get you kicked out, and we hate to do that.
hey, can anyone recomend some fun things to do at night. there are 7 prodrivers, all car enthusiasts and interested in going out on friday and saturday night.

Yeah I wish I could've gotten an extra lap or two, I even asked, but after waiting almost 2 hours right after I got there on sunday, they decided everyone only gets one self-driven lap cuz the line was too long, didn't even tell me before I went out so I didn't even really push it or anything . But despite that and the Disneyland style lines for only a few real minutes of driving I still had a great time . I just was really looking forward to the crazy lap with the instructor driving that I saw everyone else get .

I was there early on Saturday and got to drive a good amount... I thought the school of zoom was the performance challenge for some reason... and so I went all out... and the instructor guy was impressed... specifically on the left foot braking (actually I was doing the foot rolling, using the left side for the brake and right for the gas) he thanked me for a fun run haha.... unfortunately the run wasn't timed! =( The Rx-8 handles a LOT like my 2nd gen though... little more back happy, but still very much the same.

Didn't do so well at the performance challenge with the miata... first round they didn't realize that we ALL thought the starting gate was at the... STARTING GATE. It was actually after the first hairpin. So I came around that hairpin the first lap and got all kinds of missorted... damn car was undeersteery as hell, confused the hell out of me because I could swear it had to be traction control making it do that... I was trying to push the back around and it felt like the car BRAKED instead and just understeered. Either way, first lap went to crap.

2nd lap wasn't bad... only got a 37 but I know in another lap I could have cut 3 seconds off that easily. Unforunately you don't get a third lap... and the wait to do it just for fun was way way way too long at that point.

It was really fun though, had to leave early to get other stuff done for the weekend... but I definatley like the 8's handling... no idea if traction control was on or off... but I was definately using the rear tire push to get around the corners fast with just a little bit of slide, so if that's with TC on then that's really nice TC.

Anyone know if they would let you do laps without it "counting"? I would have liked to do two practice runs, then say okay punch my card with whatever happens this lap.

I was Rockin the MX-5, Surprisingly, RXGirl7 was sporting the Minivan quite well, in fact, managed to take 22 screaming 8 year olds to play a game of soccer, get them all ice cream, see a movie, and do her make-up all in the time it took me to get through the RX-8 line! kudos to you!

ford has a similar thing as well. when the new mustang came out i went, it was at irwindale. they have something now called innovation drive. the next one is at pomona as well and from the way it looks, it might be organized by the same company
