Hi all. Does anybody know of a shop near by where I live that can replace the bearings in my rotors and drive shaft gears? I live in Lompoc, (near Santa Barbara) and I'm trying to rebuild my 89 mazda engine. I've taken the rotors and gears with new bearing to the local machine shops, and when they see the rotors, I see and hear fear and questions in their eyes. I explain that it's supposed to be simple, just press out old one and press in new one, but then they say, things like, "well I'll have to charge you also for the specialized tool that I'll have to order or make, and that will cost a lot" I sure wish there was a nearby engine shop with rotary engine skills.
Is there a common issue with Mariah? I work in Santa Barbara and usually see older race cars in there. But never heard anyone rave about this place.

I haven't kept up with them the last several years but at one point I had a couple friends that worked there. They would tune customer cars with power fc's using just a commander on the street, and charge similar hourly rates as much more experienced tuners equipped with apex pro software or datalogit. They should be fine for NA cars, stockish T2's and stock FD's but they certainly wouldnt be my first choice for a moderately modified turbo car. But to be fair I haven't had any experience with them in the last several years, it could be a totally different story now.
Well went there. It was the first "Rotary Shop" I've seen. It looked really good. Jim Hagerty, Owner, was there. He was very professional and friendly. I think the price for the work I wanted done was pricey, but at least I was confident that I was leaving my job with a reliable shop. (It seems just because you have a "rotary engine" that the price of the work that needs to be done is doubled. Has anybody else ever noticed that?) He even invited me to tour his shop and look at an engine he had there that was being done at the present time. I looked (peeked) at customers cars he had there. Didn't touch or get nosey out of respect for the car owners, but I thought the way Jim helped me was very friendly.

Since moving here from out of state 20+ years ago, my only experience is w/ this body shop and that was just recently. Couldn’t be happier w/the work done. The job was to repair damage from a rear end collision. The bill ~$4K. I also had some ”minor” damage to the front end not related to the accident. I asked the owner to touch up the bumper at least to improve the cosmetics and that I would pay him on the side. To have this “minor” damage repaired correctly, would have required replacement of the bumper cover and other underneath parts. Cost would have been @ least $1.5K. The shop owner ended up doing just that. The cost? ~$200. Tell the owner that Ralph D. w/ the white ’07 Chrysler Pacifica sent you.

No pictures at the moment but Ill try to get some when I have some time. It'd be nice if all the Ventura Cty guys could meet up and cruise down together to SS this year.
