AZ Sup West Coast I'm back kinda

Yep guys made my way back to the West forums by Arizona. After my stint in the high moutains of Colorado I'm back as close as Tucson AZ. Allready found and communicated with the local rotary shop here in the city. The guys name is Jay and his shop and experience has been around around for 30 years.
Info found from his site
Brief Bio

Still got love for Mr. James down in Hesperia CA running Krazzy RPM Racing. Just trying to link up with any and all Rotary guys in the Tucson area. Looked at the two sites that represent AZ mazda's and Rotary's but there all dead with young dudes pushing their Mazda Speed 3's and the likes
Give me a shout guys and lets get these Tucson Rotary's out of hiding

AZ Cosmo update with pic's

Ok guys so I finally got my Cosmo down to the local Rotary shop here in Tucson.
Mr J is very cool and was very helpful when he looked over my Cosmo by telling all the old school knowledge. Here are some notes and issues he discovered on the old Gyal.

"Have good new and some not so good. Good is that compression is great. I was able to get it to idle down and check emissions" HC 0 ppm CO .02%.

"When I went to tighten the lock nut for the throttle plate set screw"

Uploaded with ImageShack.us

"It appears that the throttle plate set arm may be bent also, that is minor. The broken base plate is my concern. If this were a Nikki carb I would say replace the base plate. Problem Hitachi's had was that they wore out the throttle shaft holes in the base. Bad design, they had extremely long shafts with heavy return springs as far away from the pivot point they could go. Which resulted in a wallowed out base spring side. I do not think I have a good one. Will have to do some digging around out back".

Will have to get a new clutch fan and thermal clutch very soon to bear the arizona heat.

By zionfarm at 2012-07-11

He also mentioned that these lines where hooked up wrong possiblly done when it was rebuilt.

Will need to get rid of this as it may cause vapor lock and possible engine fire . As long as I keep up up with the one in the trunk I should be fine, it was the previous owners doing by puting that filter there and my fault being a **** and not removing it.

Question for you guys. My mech guy here n tucson said and showed me proof that my compression is good. My Cosmo smokes really bad, white smoke that is. My question is even with good compression can I still have a coolant leak?

My car has under 55K miles runs well but smokes on start up and smokes when I give it gas.

To my knowledge you can still have good compression with blown coolant seals, I've had two engines that have blown coolant seals in my FC and all three of my engines are currently torn down for rebuild but should be up and running within a few weeks.

Yes, if you had a coolant seal that was bad in the intake sweep of the housing, it wouldn't cause compression to drop - - it might even boost it a hair by adding to the density of the charge, water being non-compressible. Intake vacuum would help suck coolant past a faulty seal in that part of the cycle.

It could also be an intake manifold o-ring leak, if the Cosmo's had the same arrangement with the water path thru the intake manifold.

pressure test the engine to see if it is eating coolant, could be oil burning if it isn't sweet smelling and dissipates quickly in the air.

for the carb, you could try a longer screw with a locknut on both sides. if you need a new carb i have a hitachi here for parts and a friend has another that was just rebuilt that i'm sure he would sell from his RX4(same 13B engine and jetting should be the same).

I eventually want to go with a 48 Webber, but I would love to replace my carb with your friends own. Can you ask him what he is asking for on the Carb?
