Smile Stock Cats

Hi Guys, new to the forum. I'm looking to buy an FD 93' but the car I've been looking at doesn't have stock cats on at the moment, no clue if the guy has em or not. If I wanted to pass smog I probably should get the stock cats. I was wonder how much those cost. Thanks.

renkenkyo you seem to have a lot of questions for this FD... are you new to the rotary in gernal? I'm just curious as to what questions you may have.

Yeah I'm new to rotary . I test drove the car but to be honest I don't really know what to be looking for. I've been doing reading and it seems there are lots of heat issues. Its got pretty low mileage (29k) and seems to be in good condition. I'm not quite sure what I should be doing to make sure the car is in good condition.

Well how big is your pocket book. Yeah these cars can eat it up pretty quick if you let them. As for what to look for. On a totally stock car. I look mainly just at the condition of the car. Many parts are pretty disposable. With a car thats only got 29k then engine may need a rebuild just on the fact that it didnt' get run enough. Funny as that sounds it commen.

So what info do you have on the car other then milage? Color, year, modifications (other then the aftermarket cat). If its on auto trader post the link. I'm bored at work right now and more then happy to help you out.

Here's the link. He's got an R1 spoiler and a turbo timer on the car and a strut bar. I got a picture of the engine bay if you want it. I'm working with about 15-17k. BTW I mean 39k mileage not 29k if that makes any difference.

Well that car is completly stock from what I can see. Being that its a 93 if it hasn't been repainted you will have to paint it later. The paint that year is bad on every version of the rx7. Strut tower bar is a mazdaspeed knock off.. not anything special. The wing appears to be a 99 style wing. The R1 wing is not that flashy. Other then that the only bargining chip I see so far is the milage. But again I'd have to look closer at the engine so see if its been tampered with. Also a compression check is a MUST. Make sure you have seth give this car a 1 over. Also having it on the rack allows you to see much more of the car. Let me know when you plan on heading up there I'll try to be there as well. As long as its on the weekend. =) Of all the rx7's I have not seen this one ever, just an FYI... and I thought I've seen all the rx's in SD in the 6 years I've been here.

Haha, yeah I don't know how to drive stick . That'd be great, would I just have to call Seth and ask him how much a compression test is? btw how much do you think this car is worth?

Oh and the white hood prop clip appears to have red paint on it. Which means possible damage to the right front end if it needed to be painted. But then again it could just be the camera..

This are things i look for. Let me know if you want me to give it a one over.. I'm bored and willing to help. These cars are a big step for someone.. even vetran rx7 guys.

I have no idea how much it is worth I'd really have to look it over. If it was taken care of as they say... possibly that much... if the engine is in good shape that is..

Cool. I'll pm you when I find out when I can head down there. I've test driven it once on local, still need to do a freeway test and get the compression test down. the right side of the front bumper seems to have some minor scuffs.

Whats a good mazada dealer in San Diego I can get the Compression test done at? The seller aparently doesn't feel comfortable with non-dealer mechanics.
