South OC Speed Warning

If you havnt heard yet, here it is. (these are not my words BTW)

California Highway Patrol will launch a 30-day speeding ticket frenzy in
South Orange County starting January 25, 2006. The state estimates that
22 million dollars will be generated in speeding tickets. 3 million will
go to pay California Highway Patrol officer overtime. There will be 90
California Highway Patrol officers on duty at all times patrolling the 7
freeways. They are the following: 73, 55, 133, 241, 57, 5, 605 freeways.
Now 7 mph above the limit can justify a ticket and every California
Highway Patrol officers is supposed to pull a car over and write a
ticket every 10 minutes.

They have issued 50 brand new unmarked Crown Victoria cruisers and they
are bringing all their part timers on full time. If you live or work in
South Orange County you must take one of their freeways. This is a test by the CHP to raise
the extra funds for the State of California. The California State
Legislators dreamed up this program to help close the budget gap or
something like that. I was told KICU-FM confirmed all of this.

sorry if this is a repost

sons of bitches, my mom (a pro-tem traffic court judge) says that they cant use unmarked vehicles to pull you over (whats to stop a rapist from putting cop lights in his car and pulling over some chick was her arguement) but if this is true, jan/feb is gonna suck...i have to take the 73 every day to school

It is illegal to tell police officers to go out and issue tickets just for the sake of raising funds. Basically they are given a quota, based on what I read. This is illegal.

That blows considering I use half of those freeways daily. Hope they arent planning on writing any tickets around 4-6pm.

Yeah Quota's are illegal but I think you can only get off if you can get the officer to admit to a quota otherwise they can just deny.

further proof

The Orange County Register

A bogus e-mail is making the rounds claiming the California Highway Patrol will deploy a massive speed trap on south Orange County freeways, a CHP spokesman says.

The e-mail, which appears to be getting wide circulation, says the CHP will start a 30-day "speeding-ticket frenzy" this coming Wednesday to "raise the extra funds for the state." The number of officers and patrol cars would be heavily beefed up, the e-mail contends, with officers writing a citation every 10 minutes.

Chris Goodwin, a CHP officer and spokesman based in Orange County, says the agency has received several calls about the false Internet missive.

"That e-mail is ... completely false," said Goodwin, adding that the CHP does not have ticket quotas. "Somebody made it up."

Even Goodwin got the e-mail. A relative sent it to him, asking if it were true.

"No, it's 100 percent false," the officer wrote back.
