You could easily tell them that it was self defense. The military doesn't frown down upon protecting yourself.

Instead of walking away, you could simply ask him what his problem was. Then, tell him to get off your property and if he harasses you again, you'll call the cops. You could always flip the situation.

It was good of you to be the bigger person though. I applaud you.

 

why call the cops? Waste of resources. There are criminals out there that have higher priority than some douche getting kicked off the property.
