Smog questions in california..

ive been doing alot of research with not many results that would answer my question so id figure id ask you guys since tons of people have really nice highly modified Rx7's out here. I was wondering what the smog laws are down in california and what mods you CAN do the car without it failing the smog emissions. Since ive been checking out Rx7's ( and its probably what im gonna buy soon ) I wanted to see what performance mods I can add ( without removing for smog ) that will allow my car to pass without a problem. I was planning on adding a Hks bov , exhaust , intake kit , intercooler. Would these all cause smog problems or would loud exhaust get me pulled over by the cops ? Sorry for the noob questions but help would be appreciated

oh and im in Southern Cali

As to if it will keep you from passing smog, probably not, no, yes, yes, yes.

"would loud exhaust get me pulled over by the cops"

Yes

Since you've been doing research, you might enjoy using the search function of this forum. Wealth of information on this and about anything else you might want to learn on RX7's.

Unless the items are CARB apporved you cannot have them on your car. A BOV that vents to the atomsphere is illegal.

The "Law" sais that anything you do to a car that's not Original Equiment, has to go through stringent testing and inspection, and if not deemed "worthy" or otherwises passes those tests, is not legal, this includes 90% of that list, with the only exception beeing the IC, and then only if it has a "Carb" number, which most HKS parts have, given that they don't change the fuel / air mixture / ratio, which a HKS BOV, without return into the airbox, supposedly does....

And when you say exhaust I'am assuming taking off the pre-cat / downpipe (illegal)... and not just replacing the Cat-Back / Muffler... which is fine, as long as it too has a CARB number....
