Smog Check Spotted In Oc
Today me and couple co-workers went out to lunch. On the way there. we saw a checkpoint set up strictly for smog check purposes. CHP and a couple of people there. portable smog machine. Were cones on the street and everything. set-up straight sneaky status. won't see it until it's too late. Too be percise. it was on la palma ave. rite before u get too the buena park mall. makes me think twice about driving my car to OC when i get it back. thought you guy's should know. and keep it safe. safe driving~~~
i understand something like that happening in OC cuz there's no traffic. but i live in the city"LA". and too hold somethin like that on the side of the street is just insane. with the traffic in LA and ur gonna pull over cars to do smog checks? MORE TRAFFIC. just not even a thought too act upon. but then again. the streets aren't ours now is it? we just pay rent for uncle sam to use his streets.
dont get me started on the whole goverenment deal lol..but i do agree with you..and pulling some **** like that is lame as hell and defeats the perpose of smog stations..what a waste of time and tax money

i've heard about this "smog check" and the only word i was able to think of at the time was FFFF!@#
it would be a nightmare for a person to invest so much into a car then have it taken away. especially if it's their FIRST and ONLY car! i think i'd have to shoot somebody!!

Wait ... this is legal?
Would the coppers confiscate your vehicle on-site or would you be issued a fix-it ticket? I couldn't imagine it being more than a fix-it ticket ... your car is allowed to fail smog.

Damn, I live near there too. That sounds like it's near Knott's Berry Farm. Damn, it would be the worse for me, twin t3to4e's, dual exhaust, race port
I wonder if they do it in Anaheim, I live only a few blocks away from Disneyland but it's still not that far away from where you're talking about.

That is crazy, I have never herd of this. Im a smog tech here in NorCal. As far as I know, this sounds illegal. All our in Ca are done the same, smogs are done on a Dyno. Did they really have some kind of portable dyno? & the person doing the smog HAS to be licensed. No CHP officer has a smog license.
I wonder if they were really doing smogs, or if they were just checking underneath the hoods. This is just like a search, they would still need probable cause to search your vehicle.
This just doesnt sound right

When I drove by there was a portable smog machine. It looks like a kind of like a carlift, but without the hydrolics. It's a ramp, just two metal boards that your car drives up onto. There is a smog tech (guy was wearing overalls), a police car, and a few officers. There were orange cones. They weren't smogging anyone when I drove by, it looks like they were just setting up. My friend is a Sheriff's Deputy that lives in the area. He said that they do that every now and then. The police usually setup checkpoints on that street for drunk drivers, this time, it was a smog machine setup.
I've heard of them doing this in San Diego at freeway onramps. I didn't believe any of the hype until I actually saw it with my own eyes. At the time it looked like they were just practicing putting everything together and testing it out.
If your car is loud, has black smoke coming out of the exhaust, or smells like gas, I'm sure that is probable enough cause to have you roll up onto the machine.
